Rex's Story

Meet Rex! This handsome boy is between 2 to 3 years old and weighs 62 pounds. According to his foster, Rex is the best boy. Rex is outgoing, funny, "sweet as pie", calm, brave, curious. Rex is steady and can walk through a crowd or be taken out into any public setting; his only reaction is curiosity.

Rex is very attached to people and other dogs. He is very snuggly and always finds someone to lie against when resting. He catches onto new skills quickly and is eager to learn. Rex is house trained, leash trained and is such a good boy he doesn’t require crating when his people are out of the house!

Rex likes to carry things around. He often brings in his "favorite leaf" or a scrap of cardboard and carries them around for hours or days. Dishtowels, socks, and bathmats are often trophies. He does not chew them or try to eat them. It is so sweet, and he is always so proud of whatever he found to retrieve for his people!

Rex LOVES other dogs of all sizes. He plays HARD with size appropriate dogs and then plays gently with little dogs. Rex will respect grumpy dogs that like to interfere with a good time too! He could be tossed in a doggie daycare with fifty dogs and will make fifty new BFFS. He takes zero time to warm up to other dogs and people! Rex LOVES children. He loves the teenager in his foster home and plays with the kids in his neighborhood. When he sees children out in their yards, he whines and stares until he gets to go see them. He will lay down and let them just love on him. As a bonus Rex is good with cats!!!

Rex is not food or toy aggressive, but he spent several months with a dog who would shove him aside and steal his food. He will brace and growl if a dog tries to take his food from his bowl. He will share toys, allow dogs to eat the cookie "scraps" between his feet, eat spills on the floor with other dogs, and allow dogs to walk around him while he eats. But he will brace over a food bowl if a dog attempts to take his food from his bowl or push him aside. Absolutely no reaction to a person taking food or toys from him. As with any dog coming into a new home, Rex should just be fed separately until everyone trusts each other!

Rex is simply amazing. The perfect "plug and play" Lab. He is happy to go with the flow, he is easily redirected, is eager to please and truly loves everyone and everything. Sweet and soft but not timid. He is a perfect gentleman in the car. He hops in and just lays down between the captain’s chairs. Rex loves the large crate in his foster home and is often found napping with another dog in it, but he does not need crating him when left alone.

Rex is eager to find a perfect home where he can sleep next to his people, enjoy lots of interactions with people and other dogs, go on lots of adventures, and hopefully grow up with some fun children!

If you are interested in Rex and are an approved adopter, please contact your Adoption Coordinator to be added to Rex’s list. If you are a not yet approved, you can find our adoption guidelines and application at: www.savealabrescue.org

Rex will be fostered in RI
