Rex's Story
Meet Rex- The Squirrel Security Guard

Rex is a sweet, senior Labrador Retriever who is looking to enjoy his retirement. Though he refuses to let being 7 years old stop him, he does prefer to enjoy life leisurely. Rex enjoys the outdoors on nice, sunny days- where it is not too hot, but not too cold.

Rex will find many ways to enjoy the outdoors! He loves to chase bumblebees around the yard (he means no harm, he's just looking to make some friends!) and take breaks in between. What does he do on these breaks, you may ask? Well, it is carrying his Nylabone around to find the perfect spot for a shallow hole to hide it in, of course! And Rex takes top-secret knowledge very seriously, so he moves his Nylabone an hour later just so no one can try to steal it. Especially the squirrels! Rex will chase off any squirrels he sees so that they can't commit any crimes in your area!

While not the biggest snuggler, Rex will accept pets you give him and loves to sleep in bed with you! He prefers cozy moments together, rather than being Velcro and sticking to you at all times. When he isn't snoozing, Rex enjoys looking out of the window and watching the world go by. Even though he does enjoy time to chill, he is also up for an adventure, like a walk in the neighborhood or a trip to the forest preserve!

While Rex may not be the best housemate with cats, he can find peace in coexisting with another calm dog. He is no longer up for the boisterous play of a puppy or even an adult dog, but may offer a play bow at another pup. Rex is sometimes a bit socially awkward and prefers it if the other dog says hi first.

Rex's Favorite Things:
Snacks of literally any kind!
Nylabone
Being outdoors

Cues Rex Knows:
Sit
Stay
Come
Touch
"Let's Go!"
Find it

For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you.

All of our dogs and puppies go home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (for dogs 7 months and older). They are also up to date on core vaccines, as well as heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Each adoption includes a 3.5-pound bag of dog or puppy food and a free vet exam at one of our participating veterinary partners.
