Rex's Story
Rex – From Survivor to Snuggle Bug

Rex is a 3-year-old sweetheart who has clearly been through more than his fair share—but you’d never know it by the way he loves. His scars may tell a story of a difficult past, but Rex chooses softness every single day. He is a happy, affectionate boy who is ready to leave his past behind and soak up all the love life has to offer.

Rex is truly a people-dog through and through. He thrives on human connection, loves going for walks, and is always ready for a good snuggle session. And when it comes to greetings? Rex has his own special style—he gives full-on hugs. He may hop up to say hello, but it’s only so he can get close enough to rest his head on your chest or shoulder and soak in that moment with you. It’s his favorite way to connect.

Bring out a tennis ball and you’ll really see him light up—fetch is one of his absolute favorite things. He plays with a gentle, easygoing style and, if you’re lucky, you’ll catch his adorable little bunny hops when he gets going. It’s guaranteed to make you smile.

Rex is also an incredibly smart and focused boy. When introduced to scent work games, he picked them up faster than any of the other dogs—he was so locked in and eager to learn that he didn’t even need to be held on leash during training. He thrives when given direction and enjoys having a job to do, making him a wonderful candidate for continued training or enrichment in his forever home. The world is truly his oyster in that regard.

He has spent time in a busy office environment and did wonderfully, greeting new faces with curiosity and friendliness. He enjoys being part of the action and is happiest when he’s near his people.

Rex must be the only pet in the home. While he has shown calm behavior around other dogs in passing, he has also had incidents with other dogs in our care. Because of this, it is essential that he live in a home without other animals—no exceptions. This is simply the best and safest way to set Rex up for success and allow him to thrive.

Rex has so much heart, so much love, and so much life ahead of him. In the right home, he will be an incredibly loyal, affectionate, and deeply rewarding companion.

If you’re looking for a dog who will greet you with joy, wrap you up in hugs, and impress you with both his heart and his brains, Rex is your guy.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you would like to meet Rex, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care he has received.

**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.
