When asked what her favorite thing about me was, my previous owner simply said that I was the best animal she had ever owned; happy, cheerful, and so affectionate. That’s how much I was loved. I want that again. I want to live my life right by your side, your constant companion and loyal friend. I hope you want that too.

I’m an adorable, 3-year-old, 46-pound sweetheart, with gentle, soulful eyes, an expressive, precious face, and a lovely, friendly, easygoing personality. I’m already housebroken, too, although please stay patient as I get settled in. I’ve been through a lot of change lately, and it’s tough to keep up a routine here at the shelter. I first arrived at Wayside as a stray almost 2 years ago. I was adopted, and I’ve had a good life. While my mom loved me very much, things in her life changed, and she was no longer able to take care of me. I miss her. It has just been a confusing time, and the big shelter can be a stressful and lonely place for a family dog like me, that’s all. I hope that I don’t have to be here for long. I’m ready to go to my new home.

I was such a good boy in my previous home. Besides my parents, I successfully lived with kids, ages 6-18, and other dogs. I also lived with cats, who I sometimes chased. I haven’t needed to be crated at all lately, because I’m very well behaved in the house, but when I was, I felt anxious. In general, I wasn’t a fan of being left alone, because I wanted to spend all of my time with the family, involved in whatever was going on. I was friendly and affectionate and frequently just a couch potato. I barked at strangers when they entered our home. It takes me just a little extra time to get comfortable with new people. With the family, I was such a nice companion who was always ready for pets or just to be a friend whenever they needed one, no matter what. That’s just what I did.

Here at the shelter, I’ve quickly become a volunteer favorite. I like to lean in as close as possible for maximum affection and pets, soaking up every ounce of attention you show me. I can be head-shy at times, and I startle easily, but a little soft baby talk and love help to comfort me and put me at ease. Once I get settled in with you, I’ll be able to relax. Please just let me go at my own pace.

Outside of the shelter environment, it’s easier for me to forget my insecurities. I recently starred in a TV show...well, it was just a dog segment on the news, but I was the star! Everyone at the station fell head over heels in love with me. I was sweet, fun, friendly, social, and just a bit goofy with all. The studio intrigued me, as I curiously looked all around, making everyone laugh. I also enjoyed the car ride and the Pup Cup that I devoured afterwards. I got that just because I was such a good boy! What a great day!

I’m smart and eager to learn, so I hope you’ll teach me throughout my life. I already know how to sit for my treats, but I’ll be happy to learn more cool stuff. I will thrive with positive reinforcement. I love to hear praise and encouragement from you. I am a part of the Wayside’s Waifs with Wisdom class, and my adoption includes a private session for us, so that I can show you my skills.

I love going for walks and sniffing all the great smells of nature. Sometimes I pull on my leash a bit, just because I’m so happy and excited to get outside in the fresh air. A daily walk with you through our neighborhood or on the local trails sounds fabulous to me. A fenced yard where I can run and play sounds great, too. I enjoy playing with other dogs. It takes me a little extra time to get comfortable when meeting new dogs, but once I warm up, I like to zoom around and play. I barked in my previous home, so my Wayside friends recommend that I go to a home without shared living spaces, where I might bother the neighbors. Mostly, I’m looking for a home with kind and caring people who love spending time with me and who will involve and engage me as much as possible in family activities.

Sometimes life throws you a curveball and you have no choice but to stay strong and to keep moving forward. I’m excited and happy thinking about my new family! I have so much love to give, so much to offer, and I can’t wait to share my zest for life with you. I will be so grateful if you decide to choose me as your dog. I can’t wait to show you what a good boy I am.

Love, Remy Roo
