Remington's Story

Remington is an ~ 2-3 year old German Shepherd who was found as a stray by one of our partnering shelters in Hamilton. Remington was one of the lucky ones; he had a foster home step up for him who has started to give him the training that he very much needs. Thankfully, this foster family was willing to continue fostering him for Tango’s which is how we were able to welcome him into our crew and out of the shelter system.

Remington is basically a big puppy who had quite a bit of energy to burn. With the proper outlets, such as training, walks and cani-cross, Remington has learned that although partying is fun, settling and resting is great too. Remington does weekly canicross runs with a small group of dogs each weekend. He also gets very snuggly after he's worked out!

Remington is crate and house trained and is learning how to be a confident boy. Much like most shepherds, Remington can be insecure but he also mirrors his handler which is why someone with GSD experience, who is confident and willing to continue his training, is an absolute must. He has learned many commands in his foster home, and is working on even more, specifically more commands to use at canicross!

Remington’s biggest struggle is his leash reactivity. This is something we see all too much in insecure dogs. His foster family is working hard to build his confidence and positive exposure around other dogs and with time and patience, he has already showed us that he has it in him to be the best boy! He has been making some progress and is getting better at having dogs pass him at canicross, and he has successfully gone on some walks with neutral dogs that gave him some distance.

Remington has met some kids and could do well in a family home with kids, provided his family maintains exercise, structure/discipline rules in the house, and the kids follow the same expectations of respect. When Remington is overexcited he can sometimes become mouthy or chew on items he shouldn't be chewing on, but he's currently working on this in his foster home!
