Reid's Story
Reid 20-month-old male chocolate Lab 80 lbs Neutered

Background:
Young Reid (aka "Reidy Roo") was surrendered by his family to Lab Rescue after he was relentlessly annoying the other (senior) dog in the home. Reid was originally named Morgan; his foster family renamed him "Reid".

Leash walk with Reid (formerly known as Morgan) -- https://youtu.be/i3v7jk0UeUg

Reid and pal checking out holiday decorations -- https://youtu.be/6fdVLth22K8

Hanging out with Mr Reid and friends -- https://youtu.be/K-2rGrklgRY

Snoozin with The Reidy Roo -- https://youtu.be/LNG-6TmWY5M

What Reid's foster family says:
Reid is a charismatic, chunky, chocolate lab -- with young Lab behavior through and through. His immensely loving heart has set him up for success with his foster family and strong bond to whoever is lucky enough to become his forever.

Prior to coming to his foster family just before the holiday season, it was reported that Reid spent much of his time in his crate which makes him crate trained but also skittish of his crate. He is actively re-learning the crate is his own safe space and not a place for punishment or to be left alone for long periods of time.

Reid also is working on lessening leash reactivity, his counter surfing, and front door darting behavior. He would not be suited for a home located on a busy street or a family that was not committed to micromanaging his access to an open exterior door not reinforced by a strong barrier.

On the flip side - Reid is truly and tremendously thankful to be a part of a party or a boring day at foster dad's feet in his home office. His foster family jokes that if he could be worn as a scarf, Reid would. There is a light in his eyes that he wants to thrive for his humans big and small. He is very much a lab pup who needs practice with patience but what he lacks in patience he makes up for in politeness. He has made many leaps learning social skills from his 7-year-old lab/pit mix foster sister, and responsive to consistent love, attention, and re-direction towards/re-learning about structure being one in the same as safety.

More what Reid's foster family says.
Reid is a family dog and would do well in a house with another older dog to continue to learn from and a life where he can lounge freely at someone's feet or couch much longer than he would in his crate. Reid is not afraid of loud noises, overstimulating Holiday decor (lights, sounds, fireworks, cluttered space, tons of humans celebrating, etc. etc.). He is working on his separation anxiety -he has only just begun being able to explore in the backyard alone without his foster dog sister and/or his foster family members for any length of time -again, if he could be worn as a scarf, he happily would.

"Reidy Roo" is also just starting to have a gentler mouth and mastering his "4 feet" on the ground commands. Remarkably for a young, anxious lab he has zero resource guarding, destructive/anxious chewing/barking behavior, nor has his foster family seen an aggressive bone in his body. He has proven not only is he polite with big and small dogs (no exposure to cats yet) but also, that he is totally fine with having his personal space cease to exist. All this has been put to the test and repeatedly proven by any dog's toughest critics and crowd to be around... aka Reid's two-legged toddler twin foster siblings.

What Reid's Rescue Rep says:
His foster family almost "foster-failed" Reid on Day 1 of welcoming him to his temporary home on the way to his forever family. So much so that his foster Mom cried writing the above bio. Reid will continue to thrive in an active home that can provide him with regular exercise, playtime, and companionship. A sturdy fenced yard where he can continue to learn independence, chase balls, and have access to human contact during the day is ideal.

He is best suited to a home where he won’t be left alone for long stretches and where he can co-share the center of attention with an older dog to learn from and/or two-legged siblings. No idea how Reid is with cats.

Medical.
Reid had a UTI early on with his foster family that was treated by two rounds of oral antibiotics and resolved. He is in good health and up to date on all vaccines, spayed, and microchipped.

Reid is located in: Danville.

If you are interested in adopting Reid, contact Rescue Rep Dave at david.c.ely@sbcglobal.net
