Red's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.
Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. If you would like to try a Foster to Adopt trial, please fill out an Adoption Application.

If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application.

Meet Red!Poor pup, Red was rescued from the street of Ensenada. Mexico 4 years ago and the poor guy has been waiting for EVER for a foster or adopter with no luck. Since he was rescued he had stayed in Baja. As of 12/2025 he has been in san diego and since January 1st at casa de ARWOB along with his BFF Gia, cairo and other doggos that come and go. He is an amazing house dog who is a perfect companion for someone looking for a loving dog who seeks to be petted, hugged and talked to.He is a great walker, He can easily do 2-4 mile walk BUT if its 4 miles know he will be out of comision napping for the rest of the day! ha haHe enjoys going out, he will be best for someone who can take him on walks or hikes. He can run around in a yard with dog friends as he does get the crazy puppy 'zoomies' through the day. Although Red is dog friendly he is NOT the type of dog to be taken to dog parks, dog beach, etc He was an adult dog rescued from the streets who then was secluded to a property with his rescuer in Ensenada, Mexico along with many other dogs so he does NOT understand the lifestyle of dogs just running up to you to say hi. The energy and pack running at a dog like him will place him in high alert and can't read if its play or defense so its best not to do it. Walking is great BUT he has shown some leash reactivity to ONLY dogs, usually the bully breeds or medium and larger breeds. Its not severe its actually pretty managable. When he sees some dogs, he will intensely look at them (you know he is looking at them) at that point as long as you call him and keep walking he will be distracted and not start barking at them. Easy. If you where to be walking him by a home with a fenced yard where dogs are barking at him, he will bark at them as well hence do a quick walk so he forgets about them. He enjoys smelling things like all good male dogs so he can walk fast or a 'lets smell the roses' walk. Aside from the slighly leash reactivity towards some dogs he is pretty amazing. He would be a wonderful dog for a retired couple, as long as they can handle a strong dog who pulls ONLY when he reacts to some dogs just because he is a 55lb hunk, not because he goes all out and crazy, its just his normal medium breed strenght and likely with a nice training collar (prong or ecollar - thought how to properly be used by a professional trainer not just you buying products on amazon) he would be great to control by even a senior to not worry about him being strong on the leash or not. He is a sweet, sweet dog, especially if you enjoy a dog who seeks to be petted, laying their head on your lap and giving you the sweetest licks and puppy eyes. He LOVES his food and eagerly goes in his crate with his happy dance to be fed. Although he is house trained, he likely WILL try or will lift the leg inside the house (especially if there where dog scents) the first couple days so a belly lap is recommended and we can send him with one. He is easily corrected and only did it at his current foster the first day or so, he learned quickly leg lifting is a NO GO inside the home. He can be trusted as he doesnt chew or destroy things inside the home either. He enjoys sleeping in the crate but would be happy if he slept in the livingroom too. Loves car rides. He does live in a home with cats but we have not really fully introduced him to cats, so far he has not shown interest, reactivity or lounging or barking when he sees them through the door or window or walks by the cat area. He enjoys puppies and happy playful dogs but alpha personalities or those who growl or bark at him will set him off, otherwise he is very dog friendly. If interested we recommend you jump on a foster to adopt trial, we are looking for a foster home for him and fostering to adopt allows you to have him under your care for a couple of weeks to trully get to know him and see if he is a good match for what you are looking for in a dog companion and what Red needs to be happy. If you are not planning on walking red, he is NOT the one for you as that is one thing he looks forward to do and is sad on the days we don't go out for a walk. Animal Rescuers Without Borders,Inc.'s Adoption Policy
The A.R.W.O.B. group prides itself on carefully placing animals into responsible and loving homes. We care about the present and future lives of the many unwanted dogs and cats and strive to improve them so they can come to know stability, love and safety. For more information, please visit our website at www.arwob.org. Our adoption procedure is as follows: 1) Adoption Application filed by applicant (visit the applications page to fill one out!). We typically adopt dogs and cats to individuals or families located in San Diego County, Orange County and Los Angeles areas. However, we may consider potential adopters within California, Arizona, and Nevada (within a reasonable driving distance) under certain circumstances. We require that the application be approved ahead of time and a home check must be done via FaceTime Skype (we do not accept videos for this purpose). We would also require the potential adopter to come to San Diego to meet the animal in person and we recommend bringing any current pet(s) to see if they will get along. If the potential adopter opts out of the meet-n-greet with their existing animal(s) and if the new pet does not get along with their existing pets, we would require the adopter to drive back to San Diego to return the animal -- we cannot provide transportation. Our adoptions are time sensitive and our policy is that we do not place holds on any of our rescues. PLEASE NOTE: We have implemented a new policy for those who are currently serving in the military. IF YOU ARE IN THE MILITARY please fill out a short questionnaire in addition to the adoption application. 2) A play date between the applicant and rescue (dog or cat). An applicant MUST have an APPROVED online adoption application filed BEFORE scheduling a playdate at the animal's foster home. The playdate will ensure that the potential adopter and the dog/ cat they are interested in is the right match. If the dog/cat does not possess the qualities and behavioral traits the applicant is looking for, we can continue the adoption process by meeting another rescued dog or cat. You can also meet the animal you are interested in at scheduled adoption events. Approved applicants have priority to meet an animal over others. Please read the events page for more information about meeting an animal at an event and possibly taking them home afterward. 3) Home checks to ensure the safety of our rescues (If applicable). An ARWOB volunteer will contact you upon approval of your application (and the playdate appointment) to schedule a visit to your home. Here we will take a look at where the cat/dog will be living. Your home and yard must be safe and secure. 4) Adoption Contract and ID from applicant If everything checks out during the homecheck and we believe our rescued dog/ cat will live happily there, we will go ahead and sign the adoption contract to makes the adoption official. 5) Adoption fee Fees are different for both dogs and cats and are based on age and, sometimes, on the breed. Please visit the adoption fees page for a break down of all. 6) Denial of adoption applications We screen all of our adoption applications thoroughly in order to find the perfect home for our rescues. There may be times when we feel the adopter is not a good fit based on the answer to questions on their application. Please know that we vet each applicant with the animal's best interest in mind. In the event that your application is denied, you will receive an email letting you know of our decision. However, we will not be able to answer detailed questions regarding the denial.
