Reba - In Foster's Story

Breed: Lab mix
Age: 7 years
Gender: Female
Weight: approx. 50lbs
Energy Level: Low
Adoption Fee: $150 + $50 refundable deposit

Am I good with:
Cats: We can test upon request
Dogs: Yes (meet and greet required)
Children: 14+ she is very nervous to quick/sudden movements

About me: Reba’s story is one of quiet strength and incredible resilience. For seven long years, she lived outside in a hoarding situation, confined to a cage and battling heartworm with no chance to truly be a dog. Those years took their toll, but Reba’s spirit never gave up. She’s now completed her heartworm treatment and is recovering safely in foster care, where she’s slowly learning what it means to be loved, cared for, and free.

Reba is still very shy and cautious as she adjusts to this brand-new world, but beneath that hesitation is a gentle, loving soul just waiting to trust fully. She’s starting to enjoy simple joys, soft beds, treats, and kind voices. We have learned that Reba will need a securely fenced yard to keep her safe as she continues to gain confidence, and a patient, understanding adopter who will give her all the time she needs to blossom.

After everything she’s endured, Reba deserves nothing less than a lifetime of peace, kindness, and love. She’s a beautiful reminder that even after the hardest pasts, hope and healing are possible.

Please note, that with her past Reba will need ongoing potty, leash, and crate training. We are unsure how long it will take her to learn any of these things, please ensure you are ready for up to months of training.

This dog has been at ARP since: 6/29/2025

–

The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed.

Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet.

Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible.

All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped.

Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization.

The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
