Meet Raydar's Story

-Written by Raydar, a 2-year-old, 75lb male German Shepherd.
---------------------------------------------

I shouldn't be here today...and if not for a guardian angel I wouldn't be here. I was never supposed to make it out of the shelter, and all because I was unwanted. I had been abandoned by the people I thought loved me, and when they never came for me I almost lost my life. I didn't ask to be behind bars. I didn't ask to be abandoned. I didn't ask to be homeless. I didn't ask to have my last few days on earth be behind bars. I was only two years..dangit! I wasn't ready to say goodbye to everything. I had no idea how to save myself though. In fact, I couldn't. I had never felt so hopeless. I couldn't do anything but watch the clock tick by behind bars.

The shelter had tried networking me though, and someone amazing saw me. She saw a dog that would be as loyal as they come. She saw a dog that would make her smile. She saw a dog that deserved a second chance and just like that everything changed! She took me in, and then reached out to this rescue about helping me find a home. I now not only have an amazing foster home, but a whole fluffy butt village standing behind me. Can you believe it? I went from having absolutely nothing...to having just about everything! The only thing missing now is my forever family, but I am hoping that I will be finding them very soon! ♥

My name is Raydar and I am a very handsome 2-year-old German Shepherd. I am sure that you have noticed that I only have one ear. That actually isn't entirely true though. I do have another ear but it is very tiny. We are unsure what happened but are suspecting that it may have been something that I was born with. We do believe that I have some hearing loss associated with it, however, you really cannot tell because I am a very smart and observant boy. My foster has already taught me several commands such as sit and down.

I am potty trained and know how to use a doggie door. I will need tall Privacy fencing in my new home though. My foster only has chainlink and while most of the time I respect it...if I see something on the other side I will hop the fence and go on an adventure. One time, I crashed a kid's birthday party at the park nearby and got all sorts of loving and even some cake! I had the biggest grin on my face when my foster mom came to get me. I am kennel trained and have not been a big chewer in my foster home. I will bark when other animals come near the fence but don't seem to really bark at people walking by. I usually do it because the other dogs are barking too, so I may not even do it as much if I don't have the other dogs to rile me up. When my foster is away, I have free roam of part of the house with access to the doggie door and do well. I am a pretty active guy at times so am unsure if I would be the best fit for an apartment. I love having a yard to run and play in.

Speaking of running and playing, I have an absolute blast with the other dogs. I do great with other dogs who tolerate a young dog with high energy. I am really into playing and sometimes can play a bit rough so the other dog would need to have a similar personality to mine. Otherwise, they may get upset at me, and then I will be sad and won't understand why they got upset with me. I think I would also do well as an only dog as long as my family was on the more active side and home a lot. I am not being fostered around any cats, but I think I would probably go after one if I had a chance so am going to say I would do best in a home without cats. I do great with kids, even small children. I can get excited and bump into them but not on purpose...I am just a bit of a goofball. I LOVE all people and usually, they love me. Heck, I even crashed a party and everyone loved and doted on me! ♥ I love other dogs and want to be friends with every dog I meet. However, I my style of play can sometimes seem aggressive or dominant to other dogs and they don't always appreciate it and it will sometimes require intervention. I never start it, I just want to play but I probably wasn't socialized around other dogs growing up so never learned proper play etiquette and get a bit carried away sometimes.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, I have a larger-than-life personality and love adventure. I will happily hop in the car and usually just plop down and enjoy the ride. I would love and active lifestyle where I get to join my family on rides and adventures. I am working on my leash training and do well for the most part. If I see something I may still pull and try to check it out. I have never been hiking, but would probably love it. I love playing with toys but have not shown interest in playing fetch yet. I have not had the chance to play in any water yet but love the rain and mud puddles so think I would probably love getting to splash around and play in the water. I can be quite active at times, but once I got my energy out I am a pretty lazy and chill dog.

That is all I have to share about myself. I really hope that we are a match. The app to adopt me can be found at https://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/hx000BP7nbQvjHX49Uur80FV3

Please I am begging you though, only apply to adopt me if you can keep me forever. If you can't keep me through ALL of my life's changes, don't be the one that makes me have to be passed around a few months/years down the line. That just isn't fair to me.

I would NEVER give up on you, so please don't give up on me. I want to be your forever...not your until dog.

FROM HIS FOSTER MOM ? ?

~Raydar is a great boy, very sweet and loving. He wants people to bond with so badly. He is incredibly smart and catches on to things very quickly. He knows sit, down, no, leave it and drop it. Nobody has met him yet who didn't love him. He's always smiling big and ready for attention. He is not bothered by storms or other loud noises. He recalls very well. I picked him up from the Antlers pound with filth packed in his legs and feet, he ran right out the "shelter" for straight to me with a loving heart like he knew I was there to save him. He couldn't wait to load up then loved on me all the way back to McAlester. He deserves an amazing home with a loving family who has plenty of time for him. He's not pushy about getting attention or being on furniture, he's perfectly happy with laying on the floor near his person. I have not seen him be destructive with toys or household items. He's truly a precious boy with a huge heart and needs someone to let him really bloom.

Raydar's ideal home is one with plenty of love. He is great with children of all ages and it's not destructive, he mostly ignores the young ones and their toys. When he gets excited he may knock them over but not intentionally. I think he would do great in a family home with a big back yard so good family can play with him and let him run or even an active single person with no other dogs. He is very sweet and loving, get lives to be close to his person. I think he would be an amazing jogging/hiking companion for someone who enjoys adventuring out just playing in the backyard then relaxing inside. He's very versatile. He is able to jump a chain link fence if something catches his attention. He's not a digger. He's crate trained and doing great with learning manners and leash skills. He is VERY smart. He will blossom anywhere with enough love and attention. He loves to play with other dogs but he does play rough so the other dogs need to be of the same energy.~
