Rascal's Story
Thank you very much for helping this boy. This 3 year old male pitbull is in playgroups with other dogs daily and has shown no issues with dogs, cats or children but is very shy when first meets a new person. Still shy around me and I can pick him up, look at his eyes, his ears, mess with his feet and tail. I have even cornered him and no adverse reaction except for being shy.

Rascal was abandoned by he owner and handed to us by someone who claims the original owner left it with him. At first he was very nervous around everyone and we thought we would have to put him down because we have a hard enough time trying to find home for our strays on a usual basis. He actually lightened up quickly. Anyone who spends a decent amount of time with him he is very friendly with and would actually follow around the hospital.

We have let him run free with some of our regular boarders. He is very friendly with other dogs. He is fond of humping many of the female dogs he can get around but since he is already neutered (we received him this way) there is not much he can do besides annoy the other dogs. He seems to be a bit of an antagonist. He likes to pick on the other dogs but I have never seen anything that I would call aggressive.

We also have some cats that we allow to roam around upstairs. We let him loose upstairs. He did show a lot of curiosity but did not chase them at all. He went in for a sniff they hissed and swatted at him and he stayed at bay. He seemed more curios than anything else.

Another employee of ours apparently brought a younger sibling here at some point and let them play with Rascal. I did not witness this but was told Rascal behaved very well around the child.

I have not tried taking away any treats from him. I am able to take his food away without and problem at all.

He seems very afraid of the outside. He is getting better about going outside and is house broken (he usually holds it in until he is able to get outside). We tend to get a lot of traffic behind the hospital and it spooks him when cars or trains roll by. That and the occasional wind scare him as well. At which point all he would do it pull ME back to the door to go inside.
