Rascal's Story

Senior sweetie Rascal is looking for a family to live out his golden years with.

BASICS:
-- Male
-- 12.5 years old
-- 15 pounds
-- Fully vetted
-- Dog friendly
-- Lively, loving, spurts of spunky, but slowed senior roll

PERSONALITY: Rascal is a perfect blend for someone looking for a dog on a more slowed roll, no need to go on 2 mile walks every day or play fetch, no desire to parkour off your couch mid zoomies — but a dog that’s not on their death bed either. Rascal still gets spunky and has a zest for life, likes to follow you around, “talk” and tell you what he thinks (talking is one of his specialties) — but he is a senior guy on that slowed roll.

As all newly adopted dogs are, Rascal will be a flight risk starting off.

IDEAL HOME: Rascal would love an adopter who is home more often than not (as compared to e.g. someone who works away from home 40+ hours a week).

Rascal previously lived with his elderly retired owner and was accustomed to her pretty much always being home. Since being in foster, Rascal is working hard to overcome some separation, crate and storm anxiety. He just isn’t used to being left alone long nor being crated, but his dedicated foster has been working hard with him on these things. Due to Rascal’s talking tendencies, he is not a match for someone in an apartment.

DOGS: Rascal is currently in foster with other small dogs, and previously lived in a home prior to rescue with 40+ dogs of all sizes, genders, ages.

MEDICAL: Rascal is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, recent good bloodwork, and recent dental cleaning.

He was hit by a school bus about a year ago and had multiple pelvic breaks go unaddressed at the time. That said, Rascal’s pelvis did an incredible job at remodeling itself back together. It doesn’t slow him down much, his gait just looks a little wanky and goofy sometimes in light of the different structural form inside. He is on an OTC joint supplement, as well as Gabapentin as needed.

FENCED YARD: Rascal is looking for a home with a fenced yard.

AVAILABILITY: Rascal is available for adoption or foster-to-adopt (FTA). FTA is a commitment free trail run to make sure things are a fit before sealing the deal.

LOCATION: In foster in Dallas, GA

APPLY HERE: joyspromise.org/adopt

–

Note: If you are interested in adopting, please COMPLETE AN APPLICATION THROUGH OUR WEBSITE. Inquiries on adoption sites is not an application. Your inquiry will not be seen until you complete an actual application at joyspromise.org/adopt

Our Mission
Joy’s Promise is a promise to keep fighting for those like Joy. The discarded, unwanted, abused and neglected. It won’t always look like Joy, a pregnant mama facing euthanasia. It might be a pittie sitting animal control for months, years unwanted. It might be a boxer mix from a terrible hoarding case. It might be an owner ...
