Raquel's Story
Meet Raquel: Our Longest Resident is Thriving in Foster!

Meet Raquel, she is a beautiful mix. We don't know much about her past since she came to us as a stray, but we've quickly learned she has a big heart just waiting to open up.

As our longest-term resident, Raquel has been patiently waiting for her "forever." While she spent a long time at the shelter, she is currently blossoming in a foster home, showing us exactly what kind of companion she will be in a house of her own. This beautiful girl has a big heart, a playful spirit, and so much love to give to the right family.

Raquel's foster family reports that she has been having the time of her life this winter! She absolutely loves the fresh snow, bouncing around like a baby deer. She is a high-energy girl who isn't afraid to tell you when she's ready for a walk or a game of fetch.

One of Raquel's most endearing traits? She can entertain herself! If you aren't quite ready to throw the ball, she'll play fetch with herself, hiding her toys in the snow, face-planting to "find" them, and prancing around proudly once she's made the big discovery.

Raquel is a bright girl who thrives on mental stimulation. She is making wonderful strides in her training! Currently, she is mastering the art of "trading"-moving from swapping toys for treats to successful "ball-for-ball" exchanges. Her crate training is also coming along beautifully; she now enjoys all her meals in her kennel and can relax quietly for up to an hour. Most importantly, she is an excellent communicator and will clearly let her foster family know when it is time to head outside for a potty break or some playtime.

While Raquel can be shy and reserved at first-especially around tall men with deep voices-she is a total "velcro dog" once she feels safe. Her foster family recently had a visitor who fit her "scary" criteria; after a single bark and five minutes of patience, Raquel was crawling into his lap for cuddles. She is a dog who truly rewards your patience with deep loyalty.

Based on observations, Raquel needs a home where she can be the only pet, as she has shown she does best without other dogs or cats in the household. She is currently living with older children and doing "amazingly well" with them!

She'd love a family that enjoys being outside, playing fetch, and continuing her training. She needs a family willing to give her a few minutes to decompress when meeting new people.

Raquel is spayed prior to adoption and has received core vaccinations (bordetella, canine distemper, rabies), flea + tick preventative, has been dewormed, and is microchipped.

If you are interested in adopting Raquel, reach out to us at 920-733-1717 or adopt@foxvalleypets.org.
