Radish's Story
Meet Radish - Rad for short!

Radish is a 6 month old cattle dog puppy and he acts like one to a T. Because Rad is extremely intelligent and high energy, he is looking for a very specific kind of home with a herding breed savvy owner. Unemployment doesn’t suit Radish and he would love a home that can provide him with a proper job, fitting of his breed. Rad would thrive in a sport, working or VERY active pet home with an outdoor enthusiast (not a casual weekend warrior). He would not be satisfied in a home where leash walks around the neighborhood are his main form of exercise. As with any herding breed, Radish will require regular training, exercise and enrichment in order to be his best self! Rad is a very special dog and a rescue staff favorite, so we are happy to wait as long as we need for him to find his perfect match.

Radish has high food and toy drive, making him an excellent student! Rad loves working, attending weekly training classes, playing with dog friends and using his very smart brain. We think he would particularly enjoy dog sports such as agility, disc, flyball, rally-o, scentwork, and possibly others too. Radish LIVES to work with his human and learn new things (a dog trainer or dog sport enthusiast’s dream)! He has not yet been tested on livestock or in the dock diving pool but we would presume that he might enjoy either.

This handsome boy is a former stray and spent some time in a busy Georgia shelter, so he is very aware of his surroundings and won’t hesitate to let you know if something is amiss! Rad is already crate trained, house trained and has started basic manners training (sit, down, relaxation techniques, stay, loose leash walking, and recall). He is attending training classes and daytraining twice a week currently and would love to continue with professional training classes in his new home. Radish will go home with 3 free training sessions for adopters local to NH.

Rad is an extremely social pup who ADORES people! He can be a bit excitable upon greeting, but is working very hard on his polite greeting skills at school. Typical to his breed, Radish can be very mouthy, especially when overtired or overstimulated. He needs an experienced adopter who will be patient with him and help him continue learning how to be appropriate. Radish thrives on structure and routine, so a home that is committed to providing him with regular crated naptimes throughout the day is a must. Without his regularly scheduled naps, Rad quickly becomes mouthy, overtired and overstimulated.

Because of his mouthiness and excitability, we think Radish would do best with adults only or possibly with dog savvy teenagers. A home with older teenagers will be considered on a case-by-case basis and we will REQUIRE an in-person meet and greet with all family members present to determine suitability. We are also open to considering foster-to-adopt for the right family to ensure it’s the right fit for everyone!

Not only would Rad enjoy a home with another dog, but we think he would actually prefer it! Rad would love to live with another young, rough and tumble dog, over 20 lbs. He is still learning appropriate social skills and can be a bit pushy and overzealous with older dogs or neutral dogs that don’t want to play or interact with him. Radish could potentially be successful living with the right senior dog, but he will need management and training in order to succeed.

Rad is very appropriate with other playful young dogs/puppies and has received rave reviews from both his daycare and trainers. If possible, Radish would love to continue attending a structured daycare/dayschool program that gives regular naptimes. He is truly a dog’s dog and would thrive in a multidog household or a home that’s willing to give him frequent social opportunities. We have found that Radish is much less mouthy with humans after having playtime with other dogs.

Do you think you might be Radish’s perfect match? Please fill out an application on our website https://www.darwinsdreamdogrescue.org/adopt and we will be in touch to arrange a meet and greet.
