Radio Flyer's Story

Meet Radio Flyer

Approx. 1 year old | Chihuahua/Terrier mix | Small but mighty

Radio Flyer may be little, but this boy has a BIG personality!

His story began in heartbreaking circumstances. Radio was one of four dogs rescued from an abandoned hoarding house, where he had been left confined in a crate in his own feces. Melissa, one of the people who helped get the dogs out of those terrible conditions, became his foster mom—and that's where Radio's real transformation began.

Today, he's healthy, happy and discovering just how much fun life can be.

Melissa describes Radio as sweet, energetic and Velcro. He loves his person and is happiest when he's part of whatever you're doing. He's also incredibly smart and endlessly entertaining. He'll play with another dog, a squeaky toy, a Benebone... or even a blade of grass!

Radio basically has two speeds: FAST and sleeping. Once that little motor turns off, though, he's an affectionate, gentle little guy who loves being close to his human.

He's also a quick learner! Radio is house trained, crate trained and walks well on a leash—something he learned in only three days. He's currently working on “sit” and other household manners.

Radio can be timid when meeting new people, so his foster is helping him build confidence through positive experiences and outings. He's curious about people even when he's initially unsure and just needs a little time to feel comfortable.

He enjoys other dogs and has experience playing with dogs much larger than himself, but he can become overly excited and sometimes jealous. Because he loves his humans so much, Radio may ultimately be happiest as the only dog in his home with some doggie friends for playdates.

His ideal family will be active and ready for a fun little sidekick. Because Radio moves at approximately 100 mph when he's excited and likes to be underfoot, a home without very young children or elderly family members would likely suit him best. Apartment living probably isn't his style either—Radio has plenty to say when his people leave and when they return!

And one thing photos don't capture well: Radio is smaller than he looks! He's a wonderful lap-sized companion with enough personality to fill an entire house.

Radio has come an incredible distance from the little dog confined to that crate. Foster care has given him the opportunity to heal, learn, build confidence and show us who he truly is.

Now we're looking for the person who will love exactly who that is:

A smart, hilarious, affectionate, energetic little dog who is ready to make up for lost time and enjoy every minute of his new life.

We are a foster based rescue so if you are interested in meeting a dog it is by appointment only once we have receive back an application and have conducted a phone interview. We are not a shelter and do not have "one location" for you to meet all of our dogs. So in order to meet, we need to coordinate with our fosters and find a suitable location/time to meet. We do also require home visits but if due to restrictions we ask for you to at least send pictures of your house/yard.
