Radar's Story

Radar is currently living and training with his handlers at Beaumont Correctional Center.

Through a partnership with the Virginia Department of Corrections, Pixie's Pen Pals (a program of FETCH a Cure) places homeless dogs in the care of incarcerated people for dedicated, individualized training and socialization guided by canine behavior specialists.

The bio below has been provided by Radar's handlers at Beaumont Correctional Center:

My name is Radar. I love people, children, and other canines. I am a short squat terrier mix that was rescued from a rural animal control. Ask anyone that knows me and they will tell you how cute and smart I am. I love to go outside and have playtime in the yard and go for walks. I am partial to the cool embrace of air conditioning. I have known the bitter taste of abandonment and loneliness, but I am a survivor, and my heart still beats with hope that my forever home is our there. I am a gentle soul, savoring the attention of my handlers. I loke to sit at your feet and be pet, and love the comfort of my crate, and I LOVE to give kisses.

A home visit is required in order to ensure that your future canine companion is in a home suited for his needs. The application and home visit makes it easier for us to learn more about you so that we can help find the perfect match for your home! Our goal in this process is to ensure happiness and a forever home for our dogs and your family. While we work on approving your application, we will submit your information to the correctional center at which your future dog is housed. An adoption visit at the correctional center is required and pivotal to your ability to help your dog to transition between rescue program and forever home. The correctional center visits are only allowed during business hours on weekdays–our staff will help to plan the visit as far in advance as possible
