Queso's Story

Meet Queso! His littermates have all been adopted and now it is his turn. Queso came to us completely under socialized with people and the outside world. He needs a quiet home with a dog buddy to be his emotional support and to show him how to be a dog. He passed his cat testing and possibly just had his first bath ever. He has been slowly opening up and making friends with the staff & volunteers. He is learning what a lap and love is all about. He is slow to trust and is overwhelmed with the chaotic Shelter environment. Queso has learned that the leash can be a good thing, but is still trying to master the art of walking (he likes sniffy walks, but is easily started with sudden noises and movements). We think he's about 11 mos. old, weighs 44 lbs., and rode great up and back with the Transport Team to WA. Queso is a "project" dog who needs a patient and loving home where he can blossom into the wonderful dog he is meant to be!

Queso got to spend some time in a real home with a great foster in the Vancouver, WA, area, learning the ins and outs of life in a home, with a dog sibling to show him how it's done. He still needs some work with his fear of new people, but has really improved on his leash skills! Queso really came out of his shell in a home environment! He’s still shy, but on day 1 in his temporary foster home he is posing for pictures, snuggling, and doing great! Queso keeps getting overlooked, but he’d love to find a forever home. He’s even available to foster to adopt!
He has come so far. He was so shut down at first, but he’s really learned so much from his amazing foster family, who had this to say, "This awesome boy is potty trained & sleeps in his crate. He especially loves any kind of toy with a squeaker in it! Queso loves to play & then enjoys a good nap near his people. Once he’s warmed up he’s even been known to put his head in your lap!"
Queso is now 44 lbs and estimated to be 11 months old. He’s taken several road trips & has done great. Our best guess is he is some sort of cattle dog/terrier/husky mix!
Queso would really love a family. He needs a quiet home and would prefer a dog buddy to be his friend. He is extremely fearful of children so while he is definitely working on that he would need a no kid home. Queso had a foster sibling & they were great together! He passed his cat testing too! Queso does need a home of his own, please consider providing a forever home for this deserving guy!
Queso's time with his temporary foster family has ended, and he is back at the dog pound, ready for the next chapter in his journey.

Come check out Queso and our other dogs available for adoption at 2650 Washington Blvd, Crescent City, CA 95531. Kennels are open Mon-Fri, 9AM-4PM, or by appointment.

An adoption application will be required from those interested in providing a fab furever home to our dogs. Please call us at (707) 464-7235 for additional information.
