Queso's Story

Personality: Queso is a ball of fun. He has the perfect amount of puppy energy balanced with chill. He can be skittish and needs slow introductions with dogs, but does well generally. He adores kids! He needs time to get comfortable but loves hard once the trust is built.

Education: Bathroom, crate and leash trained.

Favorite Activities: Snuggling, play time, birdwatching

Looking For: A loving home with humans that will give him time to warm up and show his true self. Queso would be happy in a home with or without kids. He would also be happy to have a fellow dog in the home or to be top dog on his own. Queso is the biggest sweetheart and goofball! He loves his people

Special Needs/Concerns: Parvo survivor, cleared by the vet!

Bio:
He's Nacho Average Pup!

Hi, I'm Queso! Just like any good queso worth diving your chip into, I might need a little time to warm up before I show you all my best cheesy qualities. Once I trust you? Get ready, because I'll melt your heart!

I'm a Shepherd mix weighing about 43 pounds and a healthy dude. My journey started in Mexico, where my mama and my five siblings were brought to TAP. I've been in foster care ever since, learning what it means to be loved and searching for my furever fam.

At home, I'm the ultimate cuddle bug. I love giving kisses, following my people around, and being part of the pack. I'm silly, playful, and have a big personality once I'm comfortable. I'm happiest when I have a routine, familiar surroundings, and my favorite people nearby.

I may be a little "spicy" when I'm introduced to new things, though. New people, places, and dogs can make me nervous, and I need slow introductions. I'm not a bad boy-I just need a little extra time to realize everything is okay. Once I warm up, you'll see the sweet, goofy guy underneath.

Speaking of sweet, my favorite things are being outside and exploring! I love searching for bugs, chasing butterfly shadows, watching for lizards, and investigating anything that moves. I'm basically a backyard detective. After a day of adventuring, I'm always ready to come inside for cuddles.

I'm fully potty trained and have no trouble being home alone, especially if I have some outdoor space to entertain myself. I don't have separation anxiety, and while I love having another dog around, I can also do well as your one and only. I'm currently best friends with my foster sibling, but I need patience and training when meeting new dogs because I can be reactive at first.

Kids? I love them! I'm a big fan of my foster family's kids (ages 6 and 9), and I've shown them so much patience and affection. I just need a little time to warm up and then I'll be everyone's best friend.

My dream furever home is one that understands I'm a sensitive guy who just needs someone willing to let me come out of my shell at my own pace. A home with a yard would be amazing since I love spending time outside, but most importantly, I want people who will appreciate my goofy personality, my loyalty, and my big cuddly heart.

If you're ready for a pal who may be a little saucy at first but turns into the sweetest companion once you earn his trust, I might just be the one for you! I pawmise I'm nacho average dog-I'm the whole queso package.

My adoption fee includes my neuter, vaccinations, and microchip. If you'd like to meet me, please fill out an application!

The Animal Pad's Adoption Policy
We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane. Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational. All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times. All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise. Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000. Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc. Adoption Application: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/
