Princess Leia's Story

Our Mission: Woof Pack Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit working to improve the health, welfare, and safety of Houston's dogs. Our organization was started by one dog mom on a mission to help those animals in need. Our goal is to find loving homes for abandoned, lost, forgotten or mistreated dogs from the streets of Houston and surrounding areas.

Currently being fostered in Houston, Tx with transport available out of state.

The DNA results are in and Leia is part labrador retriever, part american pitbull terrier, and part german shepard, She has a beautiful, sleek coat with a little white on her chest. She is approximately 15 months old. Unlike her brother, she has floppy ears and the sweetest amber eyes.

Her story: Leia and her sibling brother, Luke, were found roaming a neighborhood, searching for shelter, food and water for 3 weeks before I saw them. Unfortunately, as so many strays in Houston go, neither one was fixed and she was in heat. Every male dog from the area found poor Leia, much to Luke's upset. We left out food and water where we got notification of sightings and finally found them, exhausted and hungry. After we managed to catch them, all of the other dogs disappeared and both of them just ate and slept for days. She was exhausted and greatly relieved to have a safe place. I had her vetted and scheduled her spay immediately, but because they had only had each other to rely on, it was a double, all without a plan, but time was of the essence due to the probability of her being pregnant . Anyone in rescue knows, you have to have a place to go, but the universe had other plans. We had to board them at first and that gave us a chance to assess their temperments as well. They relied heavily on each other at first and were anxious when separated, but the trainer recommended we work on separating them so they could flourish as individuals. They do very well with the other dogs, and are getting more used to being independent of each other. Sometimes she is a little timid, unless there is another dog getting pets too. She gets very motion sick in the car but I'm still looking for the right combination of things to help her with that.

She is:
• hw negative
• spayed
• UTD on all vaccinations
• Microchipped
• She is good with all the other dogs, small and large, and is gentle around the small dogs.
• potty trained, sometimes will ring the bells on the door.
• crate trained for naps and night night. (all of the dogs are used to crating after they eat to digest)

She is definitely not timid when it comes to play or walks! She still has puppy in her, so she likes to dig, chew on things, play hard, and then lay out in the sun. She is a sweetheart and just wants pets and belly rubs and rolling around. She actually rolled over on her back for the first time recently and presented her belly. Since Leia and her sibling were on the streets together and had only each other to rely on, it would be ideal for her to have a fur buddy at her new home. I would love for her to have a yard to play in and a home with a cool bed to lay on her back, and can dream of chasing butterflies with a full belly and know she is safe and loved. When she looks at you with those eyes, your heart will melt!
She has a very sweet disposition, is not food aggressive at all, learns very quickly(learned sit quicker than her brother!) and has gotten used to being separated from her sibling. She is good around dogs of all sizes and does respond to our "dog whistle" if she or any others are playing too ruff.

**Man’s Best Friend partners with us for training and boarding and can give additional information on Leia's personality. Once we have an initial chat the rescue will put you in contact with them. Please email us if you are interested in giving our adorable Leia a loving home and we will notify MBF to give out info.

**Leia is available to transport to Austin or out of state, preferably northern states.
