Precious's Story

This beautiful petite little girl was found a couple of months ago out by the Montezuma County Fairgrounds darting in and out of traffic. A kind person from out of town finally stopped and got her in his car, then took her to a friend's house in Cortez. She spent several weeks living in the back yard, unable to be touched, crated, leashed, or moved indoors. We were contacted and provided food and treats and a dog house, and went by every day to toss cheese her way and try to get her used to us. She remained wary but was excited to see us and wagged her tail and kept coming closer. We kept pushing her vet visit back hoping to be able to handle her. When it became evident she was in heat, we had to hurry up our game. We took a chance and made a spay appt, hoping we'd be able to get her into a crate that morning. We got lucky and she allowed us to direct her into the crate, and we were able to get her spayed and first vaccines. Her foster mom has kept her inside ever since, and she's slowly learning to trust, but has a ways to go. She's so beautiful and sweet, a nice size at about 42 lbs. Her foster mom named her Precious and she's enjoying the regular meals and warm, soft beds. She loves the resident dog and seems to gain confidence from his presence. She's still not comfortable with being touched, but wags her tail with excitement when she sees familiar people. She goes in and out of the house with her foster mom and canine brother. She's going to take some extra care in an experienced and patient home to get her comfortable with people and new situations. She seems comfortable with both men and women and is very motivated by cheese. Currently fostered near Cortez, CO. Please help us find Precious a forever home.
