Prairie's Story

Meet Prairie!! (case #7843)

Age: 1 year
Breed: Poodle mix… probably… we think?
Official DNA Results: 12% Poodle, 18% Terrier, 70% Mystery Ranch Experiment

Prairie arrived as a stray, bringing with her two things:
A very curious coat.
Absolutely zero paperwork explaining what, exactly, she is.

Is she part Poodle? Likely.
Is there Terrier in there? Almost certainly.
Is there perhaps a dash of wind-swept tumbleweed and frontier spirit? We cannot rule it out.

Whatever her recipe, Prairie is 100% sweetheart.
This girl bonds hard. Once you’re her person, you are her person. She loves being close to her handlers — close enough to supervise your breathing patterns, just in case. Yes, she can be a little clingy… but it’s the devoted, “you are my safe place” kind of clingy that melts your heart.

When meeting new people, Prairie bravely says hello… then promptly checks back in with her trusted human like, “Still good? We still safe? Okay, excellent.”

She can sometimes submissive urinate when feeling nervous or overwhelmed, which just means she needs gentle introductions, patience, and a calm home to help her build confidence. No drama, no chaos — just encouragement and positive reinforcement.

Prairie met one of our test dogs and did well overall! She’s still learning about personal space (she sometimes forgets she has a bubble… and that others do too), but with continued positive socialization she’s going to blossom into a polite canine citizen.

She already knows “sit” and is eager to learn more. Obedience training isn’t just recommended — it’s her glow-up era. Training will help boost her confidence, give her structure, and provide important social exposure. She’s smart, attentive, and ready to impress.

As a young Poodle mix, Prairie will thrive with daily mental and physical stimulation:
Puzzle toys
Training sessions
Walks and sniff-ventures
Interactive play

Keep her brain busy and her heart connected, and you’ll watch her shine.

Prairie is looking for a patient, committed home ready to invest in her growth. In return, you’ll get a loyal, loving, slightly mysterious prairie flower of a pup who will choose you every single day.

Adopt Prairie — whatever her DNA says, it definitely spells “devoted.”
Please complete an adoption application:

https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions

Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only.
