Poseidon FERAL's Story
Poseidon is a 312-year-old Queensland Heeler mix who is still looking for the right person to help him continue his journey.

On April 5, 2023, we responded to a dumped mama dog and her three puppies abandoned in a remote area near Bakersfield. During the rescue, Poseidon escaped into the darkness after reacting out of fear. We drove hours to return with proper equipment, and when we came back, he was still there waiting. He walked right into the trap.

Poseidon remains feral. While he has made progress since rescue, he is not a social dog and is not ready for a typical pet home.

When Poseidon first arrived, he would bite out of fear. Today, he no longer bites, but he still does not trust people and prefers to keep his distance. He tolerates more than he once did, but human interaction remains difficult for him.

Poseidon thrives around other dogs and enjoys playgroup time where his personality shines. He is most comfortable around canine companions and would do best with confident, social dogs that can help him continue building confidence.

Poseidon is not aggressive. He is fearful, overwhelmed, and needs an environment where he can continue progressing at his own pace.

Because Poseidon appears to be a Queensland Heeler mix, we would especially love to find someone familiar with the breed. Heelers are intelligent, sensitive, and often form deep bonds once trust is earned. Experience with herding breeds, fearful dogs, or feral dogs would be a tremendous benefit.

Poseidon would do best with:

Experienced adopter, foster, or rescue
Calm, low-stimulation environment
Secure fencing
Patient, structured approach
Other stable dogs preferred

After more than three years, Poseidon is the last of his family still waiting for his chance.

Located in Selma, California.
