POPPY-NORTH CAROLINA's Story

*INQUIRIES SENT THROUGH PETFINDER WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. PLEASE COMPLETE OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION INSTEAD*

*FEMALE GOLDENDOODLE PUPPY FOR ADOPTION **

Meet Precious Poppy-NC is a sweet 5 month old female Goldendoodle puppy who is in a foster home in Wilmington, North Carolina. She is an energetic and playful puppy who loves to take walks and play fetch and also enjoys snuggles and belly rubs.

*Please read ALL the information in Poppy’s listing before applying to ensure you understand what she needs to be successful in her new home.

*Please complete our adoption application at http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application (copy/paste URL into your browser).

*If you completed an adoption application in the last 6 months & would like for your application to be considered for Poppy, please email us at rescue@idogdoodlerescue.org.

*You must complete our adoption application fully. If you choose not to answer all the questions in the application, your application will not be considered. We will review your application & email you if you made our short list of applicants for him. Please respond within 24 hours if you receive an email from us about making our short list.

*You can check the status of her adoption at https://www.idogrescue.com/adopt or any of our social media pages. We will change her status to adopted when she is adopted.

*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety and welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.

*You must be approved to adopt her before we will schedule a meet and greet. We do not transport our dogs.

*AGE: 5 months old (born July 2025)

*WEIGHT: 32 lbs and is still growing. We are estimating that she will weigh in 50-70 lb. range as an adult although we cannot guarantee her adult weight.

*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and yard are required. No electronic or invisible fences will be allowed as we do not think she would be successful with those. She will need continued work on recall but does well under supervision due to her age.

*COAT TYPE: Very soft low-shedding wavy hair. We don't know what her adult coat will be like; it may shed some - we just can't say. She will need to be groomed regularly and brushed routinely to avoid matting. Her new family should be prepared to have her groomed every 6-8 weeks or so with an approximate cost of $120/groom.

*ENERGY LEVEL: Poppy is full of playful puppy energy. She would do best with at least 2 to 3 good walks a day and lots of running around. She will need her puppy energy expended through physical & mental exercise.

*DOGS: Poppy is currently living with 2 older dogs and is eager to play with them, but their energy levels do not match hers. She would do best in a home with dog(s) who match her high puppy energy level and play style; she would likely be ok as an only dog as long as her new family/owner ensures her exercise needs are met.

*CATS: Unknown; no exposure to cats in the foster home.

*KIDS: ages 12+ who are ok with a large dog jumping on them and puppy nipping while she is learning manners. She has had no exposure to children in the foster home. She is still young and bouncy when excited, so small children may not enjoy her energy.

*CAR: Great! She was transported in the car in a crate for 2 hours and has been on a couple of trips around the city and did great.

*CRATE: Poppy sleeps in her crate at night and she spends time in there when we need to leave her at home alone. She has not had any accidents in the crate since arriving in her foster home.

*HOUSE TRAINED: Poppy is doing great with potty training. She had 1 accident within 24 hours of arriving with the foster family, but she was standing at the door asking to go out and we missed her que. Since then, we take her out every couple of hours and she is doing great. She is still young, so her new family will need to be patient with her and make sure she gets regular potty breaks.

*LEASH: Poppy is working on it; she is very young and gets distracted so more work is needed. She walks better alone than with one or both of our other dogs. When walking with our dogs she tends to want to play and interact with them. She is walking 3 to 4 times a day using a Gentle Leader. She is still learning and making progress every day.

* AT THE VET: Poppy did great at her vet check! She was fascinated by all the other dogs at the vet, and didn't react to any of them in the waiting room.

* WITH GROOMING: Poppy’s prior owner confirmed she did well with the groomer. Poppy’s foster did some minor grooming and she did great. Her foster family also brushes her nightly, which she loves.

Precious Poppy-NC is a sweet 5 month old female Goldendoodle puppy who was surrendered to IDOG by a family who loved her very much but had to rehome her because of a family member’s medical issues. She is an energetic and playful puppy who loves to take walks and play fetch and also enjoys snuggles and belly rubs.

Here is what Poppy’s foster family has to say about her:

Poppy is a sweet and loving puppy; she is all puppy and needs continued work on learning boundaries, continued training and guidance by her adopters. She has typical puppy behavior, is curious about everything and loves to be near her people. Once she knows you, she will lay at your feet, ask for belly rubs and follow you around everywhere. Or, she will lean in to you for pets. We do think with consistent training, she will be a wonderful girl.

Poppy is all puppy and will quickly steal a washcloth, pounce on a mop or chew her leash; overall she does great with staying away from personal items. You will want to make sure she has alot of heavy chewer toys around to keep her busy during quiet time.

She loves her senior 4 legged foster dog siblings and wants to play rough and tumble with them. Her energy does not match theirs and they often find they have to correct her puppy behavior. She hasn’t yet figured out that no means no and will keep trying to engage them in play even when they don’t want to.

Though, they all can find a space on the floor of mom’s office and take a nap together. She would be best placed in a home with another dog(s) that matches her puppy energy and level of puppy play. She would also likely be fine as an only dog with an active family/owner committed to ensuring her exercise needs are met.

Poppy is highly food motivated and is working on basic commands such as sit, stay, and down. She learned how to shake in less than 5 minutes, but that takes less focus than a stay command.

During the day Poppy can be found playing with toys, chewing a chew bone or sleeping under her foster mom's desk. She loves to play fetch and do zoomies around the yard. She loves walks and is curious about everything. She likes to stop and watch people, dogs, cars, birds and just about anything that moves or makes a sound.

Poppy is full of energy and excitement. She needs exercise in the form of long walks and zoomie time in the yard. She loves to play with chew toys. At times she can be a bit demanding and stubborn and we are continuing to work on obedience and good behavior is key. When she is excited she will puppy nip and we are working with her to learn this is not acceptable. She also likes to jump when excited. She has loved every person she has met. She enjoys being outside and chasing leaves. She will need continued socialization to learn all about the world and appropriate play behavior with other dogs.

Adjectives that describe Poppy:
-Playful
-Affectionate
-Friendly
-Curious
-Energetic
-Smart
-Snuggly
-Loving
-Food motivated
-Precious

Activities she enjoys:
*Fetch
*Walking
*Chew toys
*Squeaky toys
*Belly rubs
*Meeting new people
Poppy’s 'needs work' items:
-obedience training and leash walking
-continued socialization to learn about the world
-continued work on puppy nipping and jumping on people
-learning how to calm down inside when walks and playtime are over

Due to the intense needs of puppies, we will require adopters to be experienced dog owners with someone home during the day, so she is provided with human interaction while continuing to work on training and socialization. We are looking for adopters who understand the training, exercise & socialization needs of puppies.

She is up to date on DAPP, Rabies and Bordetella. She has received a dewormer, is currently on heartworm/flea tick preventives and is microchipped.

She is too young to be spayed so IDOG will hold a $200 refundable spay deposit. The adopter will be required under contract to spay her by 12 months of age. You will need to send the vet receipt to IDOG and we will then refund the deposit. If you fail to get her spayed by 12 months of age per the adoption contract terms, you will be required to return her back to IDOG Rescue.

ADOPTION FEE: $695 adoption fee + $200 refundable spay deposit to be refunded upon proof of spay by 12 months of age.

ADOPTION FEE EXPLANATION:
Puppies and highly adoptable dogs such as Poppy have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting and expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses. Our expenses are very high these days due to increased vetting expenses, board and train costs, medical/health issues and surgery that is needed for some of our dogs. IDOG relies heavily on donations to bridge the gap between our adoption fees and our expenses. Unfortunately, donations are down across the board for all rescues.

TO APPLY FOR POPPY-NC, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application

IDOG Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
BEFORE YOU APPLY Please consider all aspects before applying to adopt a dog. Rescue dogs usually come with a few issues and we prefer applicants that have realistic expectations and dog experience. We prefer a physical fence in most cases but will consider this on a case by case basis. Please read through all the information on our website before completing the application. To adopt one of our dogs you MUST first complete our online application. We do require an interview. In addition, a home visit will be required. We only adopt dogs to families who will keep them as inside pets. If you are not willing to work with your new rescue dog and let them get to know you at their own pace, please don't apply for one of our dogs. Returning a dog within 24-48 hours of picking it up is hard on the dog. Rescuing a dog is a lifetime commitment and if you give your all, you will get a great friend in return. They need time and patience. WHO WE ARE IDOG Rescue is a national U.S. foster-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public charity organization and has remained in good standing with the IRS since 2006 when IDOG was created. IDOG has been offering rescue and rehome services to Doodles, Standard Poodles and Poodle mixes since 2006. We have helped over 3,700 Doodles and Poodles to date. IDOG Rescue was the first specific rescue for Labradoodles and Goldendoodles and is endorsed by both the Australian Labradoodle Association of America and the Goldendoodle Association of America. IDOG is an approved Rescue Partner in shelters across the country and has an outstanding reputation for helping Doodles in need, no matter what color, age or health status. LOCATION OF DOGS IDOG has dogs in foster homes all over the U.S. Please see the location listed in the dog's name (for example, Toby-TX is located in a foster home in TX). In most instances, you will be required to live within driving distance of where the dog is located and to visit the dog in person. IDOG does not ship or transport dogs unless this option is stated in the listing. Shipping is stressful on the dog, and stressful for the volunteer who has to spend many hours preparing the dog and the paperwork, transporting and waiting at airports. It is not simply a matter of paying the shipping charge. We will only ship a dog if we cannot find it a home near where it is being fostered. ADOPTION FEES All of our IDOGs have an adoption fee that is non-negotiable and non-refundable. OUR ADOPTION FEES RANGE FROM $100 - $750 depending on the dog. We will require the adoption fee be paid prior to or when we transfer the IDOG to its new family. The adoption fee helps IDOG with the expenses related to the care of all of the dogs in our program and is not directly tied to the expenses incurred for that particular dog. Adoption fees allow IDOG to continue doing our life-saving work as we are 100% dependent upon adoption fees and donations to cover the costs of the dogs in our care. Each dog is assessed individually to determine the adoption fee. It currently costs IDOG an average of over $400 for basic vet, grooming, and foster care on each dog; that does not allow for the ones who get sick, need surgery, have special needs, or are heartworm positive. Adoption fee covers the cost of spay/neuter, core vaccines, fecal test/dewormer, heartworm testing, heartworm/flea/tick prevention and microchipping. All IDOGS are evaluated by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. HOW TO APPLY To apply for any of our dogs, please complete the application on our website: http://www.idogrescue.com/adoption_application REHOMING ASSISTANCE - FOR FAMILIES WHO NEED TO FIND A NEW HOME FOR THEIR DOODLE/POODLE IDOG Rescue also provides assistance and support for people who need to find a new home for their family pet - our motivation is to get these dogs into homes that understand the temperaments and needs of these energetic, playful & loving dogs.
