POPPY's Story

POPPY
FEMALE
BLACK PITTIE LAB MIX
DOB: 08/05/2025

Poppy is the little puppy with personality plus. She was born outside with her two sisters, Phoebe & Poppy near the side of the road. Their mama, Nylah stayed with them there and kept them safe until someone finally stopped and took them to the Franklin County Dog Shelter. But it didn't go well at the shelter for this sweet family. Nylah (the puppies' Mama, was still a puppy herself. She was scared, there were dogs on each side of her kennel and she barked and barked and huddled around her puppies to protect them from the other dogs and the environment. She was stepping all over the puppies and didn't really know what to do with them so the shelter asked if we could step in and help this little family.

Once we rescued the three girls and got them into their new foster home, things were going so well. But once day, the resident dogs at the foster home (much larger than Nylah and her babies) broke down the gate that kept Nylah and her puppies safe int their own little room, and attacked Nylah. She defended her puppies (even though she was less than half the size of the other dog. She was injured and her face was badly scared and blood was everywhere, but Nylah had taken the brunt of the attack, and kept her babies safe. She had to go to the emergency vet, ad now she is especially cautious around other dogs, but she is okay and her babies are jut the cutest little house hippos you will ever meet.

Poppy was the peacemaker. She was always in the middle of the tumbling puppy parties but never getting too rough and leaving the party when things started to get too crazy. Now she does love to play and she loves everyone as well as her sisters and her Mama....but she is just a happy little girl and is, like her sisters, and Mama very smart! She is a wonderful little puppy (house hippo) that loves to play, follow you around and be involved in everything. The next minute, shell be out like a light (like all puppies) dreaming little puppy dreams. She is loving and will be ready to go to a family of her own where she can be carried around, taken for walks and where she can go to puppy obedience class (we recommend for ALL puppies!) She is going to make someone very happy to have her as their girl for the next 12-14 years!

If you are ready to make a lifetime commitment to care for and love this puppy for the next 12-17 years through thick and thin (not just until it’s not convenient) and are ready to welcome this baby into your home, please complete an adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/223107373504044

We HIGHLY encourage obedience/behavior training for all of our pups once adopted into their forever homes.

We do not have a shelter or sanctuary. All pets are cared for in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted.

We require a home visit as part of the application process. In general, we are only able to coordinate home visits where we have volunteers available to do the home visit.

NOTE: PetPromise requires all pets be spayed or neutered and fully vaccinated before adoption. However, if you are interested in a particular puppy you may apply to adopt the puppy and once approved, you may enter into a Foster to Adopt Agreement whereby you agree to foster the puppy for PetPromise until PetPromise has the puppy fully vaccinated and spayed/neutered. Once the vet care is complete an official adoption will be completed.
