Pongo's Story

Hi there, I'm Pongo. I'm a 6yearold, 60pound Dalmatian blend with a heart that's just as big as my spots. I'm a cuddly, quirky guy who loves curling up on the couch, carrying around my stuffed toys, and soaking up all the affection I can get. New sounds, strange objects and unfamiliar people can make me a little unsure at first, but once I've had a moment to understand what's going on, my sweet side shines through. Give me a little patience and a gentle touch and once I warm up, I'm your loyal sidekick for life.

Favorite Things: Pongo adores toys, cozy couch time and any moment that lets him be close to his people. His playful streak comes out when he's tossing his stuffed animals around and his affectionate side appears the second he spots an open seat beside you. He enjoys exploring the yard, stretching his legs and settling in for snuggles after a good round of play.

Training and Manners: Pongo is house trained as long as he's let out regularly. He has a solid foundation of basic manners and knows sit, lay down, stay and come. He walks nicely on a leash, though he may bark when passing other dogs; more of an enthusiastic “announcement” than anything else. With reassurance and guidance, he settles well and continues to improve. He has free rein of the house and is respectful and trustworthy when left alone.

Health and Care: Pongo is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and neutered. While he doesn't require professional grooming, regular baths and nail trims will keep him looking and feeling his best. He is a little sensitive to trimming his nails. Like any dog, he'll need monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Pongo manages some anxiety and occasional itchy skin and ears. Apoquel and anxiety medicine are recommended when needed. The cost is around $90 for a 30 day supply.

Other Animals: Pongo enjoys the company of calm, similar sized dogs. Pongo does not like smaller dogs and has never been around cats but is probably not a good fit.

Children: Because of his anxiety and enthusiastic play style, he'll be happiest in a childfree home or one with calm, dogsavvy teenagers who understand how to give him space when he needs it. In a quieter environment, he can relax, feel secure, and show off all the sweetness he has to offer.

Ideal Home: Pongo thrives in a singlefamily home with a fencedin yard where he can stretch out, explore and enjoy all his favorite outdoor sniffandzoom moments. He's not a fan of confinement so a family that gives him freedom within the home will help him feel secure. Pongo does best with adults who understand his sensitivities and appreciate his sweet, silly personality. With plenty of space, steady routines, and lots of love and playtime, he truly blossoms.

Overall: Pongo is a loving, tenderhearted dog who does experience some anxiety, but he has never shown aggression. With patience, reassurance and the help of his medication, he settles beautifully and lets his sweet, quirky personality shine through. With the right match, Pongo will be a devoted, comforting, and delightfully quirky partner who brings warmth and love to the home that understands him.

Ready to give this sweetheart his forever spot? Visit www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org to fill out an adoption application. If it seems like a match, his foster family will reach out. His adoption donation is $275.
