Polar's Story

Introducing Polar a goofy, sweet, and incredibly lovable girl who is ready to find her forever family. With her happy smile and easy-going nature, Polar wins hearts wherever she goes.

Lab Mix/ Northern Designer Mutt| 1 Year | Female | 60 lbs | Good with: Dogs and kids |

Background:
Polar is a young northern pup from Manitoba who has transitioned beautifully into back in to our foster care. Much like her brother Gage, she arrived with a calm, go-with-the-flow attitude and quickly settled into her new environment with little stress or anxiety. As she’s become more comfortable, her playful personality has started to shine, complete with zoomies and toy-tossing antics. She was sadly brought back into our care as her pervious owner who foster failed this cutie sadly and suddenly passed away.

Ideal Home:
Polar is an incredibly adaptable dog who would thrive in almost any environment, city, suburban, or rural. She’s well-socialized and accustomed to the sights and sounds of busy downtown living, making her a great candidate for apartments or condos with regular exercise. While she’d love a fenced yard, it’s not a must as long as her physical and mental needs are met. One of Polar’s most heart-melting traits is her huge, joyful smile when you come home — complete with full tail wags and toothy grins. She’s affectionate without being needy, playful without being overwhelming, and truly a joy to have around. Polar would do well with:
- First-time dog owners
- Active individuals or families
- Homes with other dogs or cats (not cat tested but doesn't show any prey drive)
- Families with children
- Solo households looking for a loyal companion
She’s happy to be included in activities but is also perfectly content entertaining herself with toys.

Training & Behaviour:
Polar is house-trained and already knows sit and paw. She’s currently working on:
- Loose leash walking & heel
- Waiting patiently for an “ok” before eating
- Recall (fair, but improving!)
- Using marker words like “yes” and understanding “no”
She is a strong puller on leash, but has already shown significant improvement with consistent training and continues to get better every day. Polar has a moderate energy level, making her a great balance of playful and relaxed. She settles beautifully after activity and loves her downtime just as much as playtime.
Polar is calm when left alone and settles quickly after a brief moment of checking doors. She naps on the couch during the day and sleeps through the night on the bed, patiently waiting for her humans to wake up. She is not currently crate trained, but has no issues being free in the home.

Summary:
Polar is a well-balanced, loving, and adaptable young dog who will make an incredible family companion or loyal best friend. With continued leash training and an active lifestyle, she’s ready to thrive in her forever home.

NOTE: All adoption applicants must be residents of Ontario, Canada to be considered.

Ready to give Polar the forever home she's looking for and a second chance at happiness?

Apply now: http://seapawsrescue.org/adoptionApplication.htm

Sea Paws Rescue's Adoption Policy
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. All adult members of the household must attend the adoption interview. We prefer that applicants have lived at their current address for at least three months. This is to make sure that owners have had time to settle into their new surroundings, and provides stability for the new pup who themselves have already undergone multiple changes in a short time. Because young puppies require intensive training and care, we do not place puppies younger than 8 weeks of age in a home. Because of potential behavior/training concerns, we are very cautious when placing young pets in homes with children under the age of five. If applicants have another animal at home, they must introduce the animals properly. We want to make sure that their animal is happy with their selection and that the transition for both animals' will be relatively smooth. All adopters must take the animal to a veterinarian within one week of adoption as Sea Paws Rescue (SPR) does not screen for all diseases including, but not limited to, tick fever and heartworm. All further examinations and immunizations from the date of the adoption are at the adopter’s own expense. SPR makes no health guarantees or warranties. All adopters must understand that there will be an adjustment period and their pet may experience behavioural and/or health issues related to the change in environment. Adopters must seek professional assistance from a trainer and/or licensed veterinarian if they have concerns about issues related to the adjustment period. If at any time, for any reason, a SPR adopter decides not to keep their animal, they agree to return the animal back to a Sea Paws Rescue representative. Under no circumstance will the adopter surrender a SPR animal to a local shelter. In the event of a rehoming, no part of the adoption fee will be reimbursed.
