POKEY's Story

Nope, we don’t have any whitetail deer for adoption. However, we do have Pokey (A566385), which is pretty close! Pokey arrived in our care in pretty rough shape, but that didn’t stop him from showing us just how sweet he is. If you spend time with him in his kennel, the first thing you might notice is the way he pokes you with his nose to ask for affection, hence the name Pokey. If he has affection to give, he is not one to take no for an answer and will nudge your hand until you give him some scratches right behind the ear. While he wants to be right by your side indoors, outside is a totally different story. Pokey is a dog with a sniffer that must sniff everything. If there is a blade of grass at the far end of the yard that has not been sniffed yet, you can bet Pokey will find it. He enjoys taking in all the scents and loves to hop around in the tall grass every chance he gets. If you are an outdoorsy person who needs a companion that can keep themselves entertained, Pokey may be a good fit for you. Pokey has been tested with a female dog, but much like anything else that tries to cramp his style, he mostly ignored her to go sniff more grass. That being said, he would probably do fine in a home with another dog that is just as independent as he is. Pokey is a precious fellow that is past his puppy years and just needs a place that will love and appreciate his awesome sniffer and nubby little tail. Please come check him out today! Pokey is guesstimated to be 5 years old and weighs 48 lbs. All dogs adopted from Huntsville Animal Services are spayed/ neutered, microchipped, dewormed, appropriately vaccinated, and receive a topical 90-day flea/ tick preventative. Ready to meet Pokey? All you have to do is stop by our shelter at 4950 Triana Blvd and head to our dog areas. You can find him in our adoption area in D49. All adopters must be 19 years or older with a valid ID
