Po's Story

Hi, my name is Po! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Shy, affectionate, playful, still learning!
-Can Live with Kids: Unknown history - likely ok with dog savvy, sturdy kids 6+. Up to counselor's discretion.
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history - slow and supervised introductions always recommended.
-Can Live with Dogs: No thanks. Even though Po is good with his littermates this under socialized pup is going to need a lot of work and training to be able to interact safely with other dogs.
-Can do Apartment Living: No thanks! Po is going to grow up to be a BIG BOY and as such needs a larger space to explore.
-Potty Trained: Working on it!
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Not required, but highly encouraged to help Po gain confidence and work on basic manners/skills.
-Energy Level: High!
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, neuter.

At just 6 months old, Po is already a BIG boy who is figuring out how the world works. He likely spent much of his early life outdoors, so many everyday things are brand new to him. Because of this, he’s looking for a patient and encouraging home that can continue helping him build confidence and learn his manners. Po is currently working on his leash skills and basic puppy etiquette (including the fact that, despite his best efforts, he is not actually a lap dog). He’s a sweet, goofy adolescent who will thrive with consistent training, positive reinforcement, and plenty of appropriate outlets for his size and energy. He’ll do best with adopters who are ready for a large-breed puppy commitment - think training classes, structure, and lots of enrichment. In return, you’ll get a loyal companion who is eager to learn, deeply affectionate, and full of potential. If you’re ready to help a big baby grow into a well-mannered best friend, Po might be your guy.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
