Pluto's Story

Is he a planet? Mickey Mouse's dog? Or maybe Pluto is your dog and you just haven't met him yet!

This 1.5 year mini poodle is a big dog in a small dog's body. Pluto has been working with a trainer since he was surrendered to us by his former owner and he's made so much progress. He's still working on his potty training but has already made great strides in that area. He's pad trained already and working on outdoor training.

He won't let his size stop him from playing with the big dogs when he wants to - he's fun and feisty and loves to roll with them! He's also getting used to smaller dogs. While originally he much preferred the dogs larger than him, in his work with our trainer he has gotten to the point of getting along well with other small breed dogs. He's very good at enforcing his own boundaries with other dogs. Just like human tendencies though, there are some personalities that he much prefers not to socialize with.

While he prefers the company of people to other dogs, he still gets along well with his canine friends, especially if they'll join him in some physical play. He takes a bit to warm up to new people, but he's doing much much better in this area. He's made many friends who can all pick him up, snuggle with him, and pet him - but he likes to build trust first, usually through play and having people take care of him (feeding, letting him out, etc.).

When playing with people, Pluto loves to be under a blanket and gently jostled. He's also great at "playing footsie" and loves when you use your feet to play with him! He's a snuggle bug and once he trusts you, he'll be your best buddy. His play style can include being a bit mouthy at times, which means Pluto will do best in a home without any young children.

Pluto would do well with some space to run and play off leash, so a fenced yard is definitely a plus. But he does just fine in a small room where he can run around and play too. He loves to run and chase his little toys around when you throw them, and he'll even play chase with you!

He has his own space and sometimes likes to retreat there for a bit to lie on his bed or play with his toys. He's happy to go in there when it's time for bed and loves a snuggle before going into his pen for a snack or a sleep. He's very good about letting his caregivers help with grooming tasks like wiping his eye boogers, and has been getting groomed regularly while in our care.

Pluto's adoption fee is partially sponsored and is now $400! This adoption fee includes: his alter, a microchip, his rabies and age appropriate DAPP vaccines, flea/heartworm preventative, and a deworming treatment while in foster care.

If you think he may be perfect for you, please apply using the link below!

https://www.cognitoforms.com/NorthPawRescue/NorthPawRescueDogAdoptionApplication

**Unfortunately, we cannot adopt out to Canada at this time.

**We require a 60 minute adoption radius. This dog is currently being fostered in Webster, NY.
