Piglet's Story

Name: Piglet
Age: 3 years
Weight: ~50 lbs
Breed: Labrador Mix
Location: Fostered in Burlington, ON

Personality & Story:

Piglet is a gentle, sensitive girl who is finally learning what it feels like to be safe, loved, and understood. She came from a property with over 20 outdoor dogs and very little human interaction, so she arrived understandably unsure of the world.

Since entering foster care, Piglet has made remarkable progress. She has formed a deep bond with her foster family and now shows her affectionate, loyal nature every day. Once she trusts you, she is incredibly devoted and thoughtful — the kind of dog who watches you closely and connects deeply.

Piglet is especially happy in nature. Whether she’s exploring the woods or participating in canicross on the trails, she thrives when there is a clear purpose and calm environment. At home, she is relaxed, affectionate, and very in tune with her people.

Social Skills:

Piglet does very well with other dogs and enjoys the company of calm, confident canine companions. Having another friendly dog in the home would likely help her confidence continue to grow.

With humans, Piglet bonds deeply once she feels safe. She can be wary of strangers and may become overwhelmed in busy environments or with unfamiliar people approaching too quickly. As her confidence has grown, she has begun communicating her discomfort more clearly — sometimes growling instead of shutting down or hiding — which is actually an important step in her learning to advocate for herself.

Piglet continues to excel in structured environments such as canicross and organized dog runs, where she shows calm focus and appropriate social interactions with familiar people and dogs. Outside of those structured settings, she is still building confidence around unfamiliar people and may react if startled by fast-moving strangers while on leash. Because of this, her adopter will need to continue supporting her with gradual exposure and positive reinforcement.

Ideal Home:
Because of her sensitive nature, Piglet would do best in:

- An adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy teens
- A calm household without frequent visitors
- An experienced adopter familiar with shy or previously under-socialized dogs
- A home that will continue confidence-building and positive reinforcement

Training & Home Life:

- Crate trained
- House trained
- Low to moderate energy
- Thrives with routine
- Excellent in the home environment

Piglet is truly wonderful at home — affectionate, calm, and very connected to her people (with the occasional normal dog mischief like counter surfing if given the opportunity!).

What Piglet Needs:

Piglet thrives with a calm, patient approach and ongoing positive reinforcement. Expanding her comfort zone to include busier streets, public spaces, and a wider range of people will be an important part of her continued progress.

She needs an adopter who understands that building confidence takes time and is willing to advocate for her while she continues learning about the world.

Why You’ll Love Piglet:

Piglet is a tender-hearted soul who simply needed time. She is loyal, deeply bonded to her people, and absolutely shines in calm, natural settings. Watching her confidence grow is incredibly rewarding.

If you’re looking for a thoughtful, devoted companion and are willing to give her the patience she deserves, Piglet will repay you with quiet loyalty and love.
