Phoebe's Story

Meet Phoebe!

She is a stunning 4 year old, 75 lb. Lab/Weimer mix. Here is what her foster had to say…

“Phoebe is a dream dog!

I have had the pleasure of fostering her for two months and would love to share what I've learned. First of all, her temperament is lovely and she is an absolutely gorgeous girl! She is the perfect combination of playful and calm. When she gets excited, she hops up and down a little bit - so cute. Phoebe really enjoys a short game of fetch and she will let you know when she's had enough by carrying her ball to the door! She adores walks too. A 20 minute walk is all she needs but will happily go longer! She wouldn't even get up on our couch until I gave her permission! What impeccable manners! Nothing like watching a tv show with a sweet pup lying next to you! Her coat is a striking silver/dilute chocolate color and she turns heads wherever she goes. Speaking of going, she rides in a car beautifully. To top all of this off, she doesn't chew things up! She prefers her chew toys instead.

Phoebe has been living with 2 cats here and she's very gentle with them - she's not aggressive in any way and it's comical watching her play bow to try and engage them in play. She's been sweet with our small dogs too. I think she might have lived with children because she gets so excited when our grandsons come to visit. If you've had a Lab in your life before, you know how much they love people. Small children will need to be supervised because 75 lbs of Phoebe adoration can be a bit much for the under 8 year old set. Whenever you want Phoebe to chill out, just tell her to go to her bed and she will go right over and lie down. She sleeps in her crate at night without a peep. She's not a big barker, but she will bark if someone knocks on the door or stands on the roof next door (neighbors are getting their roof replaced) - LOL She has great recall, so when she barks or when you want her to follow you back inside, just call her name.

She's 100% housebroken and doesn't even try to "counter surf". She loves toys and will collect them in her bed. She eats dry dog food and she's been getting good supplements for her coat and a joint supplement every day. It's obvious that she's had a litter or two but she's spayed now so those days are thankfully behind her. From now on, she's just going to live the life of a pampered pet.

Phoebe is a true gem, a joy to be around and she'll steal your heart very quickly. Lucky is the person or family who adopts this treasure.”

While in our care Phoebe has been fully vetted, is UTD on vaccines and preventatives, heartworm and parasite tested, spayed and microchipped.

If you are interested in meeting this precious girl please email us at huntershoperescue@gmail.com for an application. Questions? Please email is us at huntershoperescue@gmail.com. We are all volunteers with jobs and families in addition to our rescue dogs. We do our best to respond to inquiries within 24 hours but please be patient. Applicants under 25 years of age will need to demonstrate an adult lifestyle. If you rent your home we require a letter from the landlord submitted with your application granting permission for a pet. A fenced yard is preferred and in most cases required. PLEASE READ- due to COVID we are experiencing the same issues as most service and retail establishments. Fewer volunteers due to sickness and/or quarantine requirements and this is causing much longer response times. Your patience is appreciated.
