Petey (Courtesy Listing)'s Story

Courtesy Post (Petey is not in ARF's foster care program.)

If you’re looking for a best friend who’s equal parts brainy and cuddly, Petey is your guy. This handsome pit mix is a certified love bug with a soft spot for belly rubs, back scratches, and being as close to his people as physically possible—preferably in your lap.

Petey is fantastic with adults and kids alike (ages 2+), greeting everyone with a wagging tail and an open heart. He’s grown up with other dogs and truly enjoys their company, whether that’s playing with his canine housemates or making friends at the dog park. He’s also lived peacefully with cats and is more into snuggles than shenanigans indoors.

This boy is smart—like, “top of the class” smart. Petey is fully house-trained, leash trained, and knows his basic commands (sit, stay, down, paw), plus a crowd-pleasing “dance” complete with a spin. He’s very treat-motivated, eager to please, and genuinely loves learning, which makes training a joy rather than a chore.

Petey’s energy level is just right for a young dog: he enjoys walks, playtime, and car rides (windows down, breeze in his face—child locks recommended!), but he’s just as happy settling in to watch TV and snooze beside you. Off-leash on familiar property, he sticks close and checks in often.

A few things to know:
Petey is still a young pup who benefits from clear boundaries and a secure environment. He’ll do best in a home that’s mindful about outdoor supervision and fencing, as he’s curious and social. Like many smart dogs, he can get into “puppy trouble” if bored, so mental enrichment and routine will help him thrive.

Petey is a truly special dog—loving, loyal, and wonderfully trainable—who’s ready to give his whole heart to a family that can offer him stability and safety. If you want a devoted sidekick who will adore you, learn quickly, and happily share the couch, Petey is ready to meet you.

If you would like to learn more or meet Petey, please complete our adoption application: https://arfhumane.org/arf-adoption-application/. We will forward this to Petey's owner.
