Petey's Story
Hi, my name is Petey! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Friendly, happy-go-lucky, affectionate, energetic, thinks he's a lap dog
-Can Live with Kids: Unknown history with kids. At this time, we are recommending kids ages 6+ (up to counselor's discretion). Initial introductions done here at WHS to make sure he's comfortable with children.
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history - will need slow and structured introductions to ensure everyone gets along.
-Can Live with Dogs: No. Petey seems to be under-socialized with other dogs (mostly other males) and would do best as the only dog in the home for now. May change pending further testing.
-Can do Apartment Living: Ideally no, but may be okay depending on the situation (up to counselor's discretion).
-Potty Trained: Appears so!
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, one private lesson
-Energy Level: Medium
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes, a neuter
-Additional Information:
Petey the pittie is super sweet, floppy eared boy looking for his forever home! He came to the shelter as a stray, so we don't know much about his history. From what we can see, he is a happy and friendly dog who loves everyone he meets! Petey's perfect home is one where someone is present often to give him the attention he longs for. This big softy often forgets he's 60 pounds and will crawl in your lap for some much-needed cuddle time. Since Petey's history is unknown, we want to make sure his new owners set him up for success. He's going to need consistent positive reinforcement based training and a predictable routine - this will help him feel safe and secure with his new family. Petey is also going to need plenty of exercise AND mental stimulation to keep him happy and healthy. Petey is an intact male who can be a little standoffish with other dogs, especially other males. We are hopeful that neutering him will help with this behavior, but we recommend working with a trainer on responsible socialization.

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
