PETE's Story

Pete is a 4 1/2-year-old beagle looking for his forever home. He is crate-trained and working on house training. He is good with cats, other dogs and with kids. Pete is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to become part of your family.

Introducing sweet and handsome Pete!! This moderately active beagle boy likes walks, stuffie dog toys and hard chewies. He does well and likes riding in the car, meeting new people, small children and playing with other dogs. He is crate trained and spends time in his crate when left alone in the home - keeping the crate clean and dry. While he does bark, Pete is not all that vocal. He absolutely loves a good cuddle session and follows his humans all around his foster home.

Pete is friendly to everyone human he’s met, children, other dogs, cats, He loves seeking attention from his human companions. Big fun for Pete is walking on lead! Initially he might pull a bit but that’s because to totally enjoys a good run. He’s doing well with his house training, eliminates on lead and in the yard but that skill will need to be finished in his new forever home. Pete is very curious, enjoys car rides, likes hard chew toys, tolerates baths, allows you to clip his nails, clean ears and paws without fussing. He been classified as an A plus snuggler. While Pete can get into places he should not, he is beginning to understand obedience commands, respects a spray from a water bottle and very eager to please. While his foster parents describe him as a perfect angel, he has shown some interest in chewing inappropriate things. Shoes, remotes, coins and any small object that will feel good in a beagles mouth will need to be carefully put out of his reach.

Soooooo, Pete is the Perfect beagle except he does have a special need. He has a condition known as Paroxysmal Dyskinesia - Canine Movement Disorder. This means he may have occasional episodes of unusual movement or muscle cramping. During these episodes, Pete remains awake, alert, and responsive, and once they pass, he returns to his normal self. The episodes are unpredictable but typically short and do not affect his lifespan or overall quality of life. Many dogs with this condition live happy, full lives, especially with a calm routine and supportive care. Although episodes an infrequent (less than 1/month) and initiate from his brain, these are not seizures. For an interested adopter, we have videos of ann event we can share with you.

Pete seems to be a very adaptable and should do well in most homes environments. An apartment, condo or free standing home with a fenced in area that will allow him to run, explore or bask in the sunshine could be a perfect place to his forever home. An additional dog and/or older child would also work out fine for this sweet little guy. If Pete seems like the perfect addition to your home, please complete a Dog Adoption Application to get the process started.

If you're interested in adopting Pete, please first read about our adoption process.
