Percy's Story

PERCY IS READY FOR ADOPTION!!!

Percy has finished all of his vetting and is now raring to go to a home and backyard and family of his own!

Percy is a young adult, 3-4 years old, a gorgeous solid black with a long tail and a shiny coat. He looks bigger when you first meet him, but weighs a cocker-average 26 pounds. You'll get an idea of his size relative to other cockers in one of the included play videos. We know he is a cocker mix, just no idea what he's mixed with. He spent some time in a foster home but was moved into boarding after his foster became ill. He’s doing well there, but really wants his own people.

He is a very friendly, playful, and energetic fellow. He loves walks, hikes and playing in the water. He loves to play with toys, like a pull toy, but can also entertain himself. Based on the play videos and the time he has spent at the boarding facility, he gets along well with other dogs.

Percy does best with a dog of playful and energetic temperament or humans who can run and walk and play with him to burn off all that energy. As a dog who still jumps on people, Percy needs bigger people (children 8+) to hang out with until he can learn that four-paws-on-the-floor gets the attention he desires.

Two things that Percy does not like are staying in a crate (temper tantrum) and being left at home alone (barks!), so he would do best in a home where someone is home most of the time. He could also use some work on learning good manners, like not pulling on a leash when walking and not jumping on people. Because of the crate issue, he slept on his dog bed beside the foster, though he probably wouldn't mind snuggling up with you in your bed if you'd like him to.

We were told that he is house-trained, though it may require some reinforcement. He's only had a short stay in his foster home, so he may still be learning how to signal when he needs to go out.

Percy is described as being "super fun." His foster mom really adored him. Do you think you might have room in your heart and home to welcome this happy boy into your family?
If you are already an approved adopter or foster, please contact us at dfwcsr.adoptions@gmail.com.

If you would like to be considered but are not yet approved, please submit a foster/adoption application (they’re the same), found on our website here: https://dfwcockerrescue.org/adoption-process/
