Pepper (Seattle, WA)'s Story

Meet Pepper, a devoted couch companion, enthusiastic copilot on car rides, and champion belly-rub enthusiast, ready to build a special bond with the right person.

Pepper is a 3-year-old female cattle dog who loves treats and napping in the sun. She was rescued from the streets of Texas while pregnant and brought to Oregon, where she gave birth to a litter of puppies who have since been adopted.

Pepper has been diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) in both of her ankle (tarsus) joints. Her condition doesn't stop her from enjoying daily walks, but she is not as active as many other cattle dogs and needs daily medication to manage pain and inflammation. On the plus side, she is perfectly content to be a couch buddy or a passenger princess—and she absolutely loves car rides.

Despite her difficult start in life, Pepper has a big heart and has blossomed into a sweet little nugget who lives for belly rubs and affection. In foster care, she has been building confidence and learning to accept love from people instead of fearing them. Once she feels safe and secure, she forms a strong bond.

Pepper needs a confident, herding-dog-savvy person who can read canine body language and use positive-reinforcement training to support her continued rehabilitation. She will do best in a low-key household without children. She has shown she can get along with some dogs, but it depends on their temperament.

If you have a quiet home, a patient heart, and room beside you on the couch, Pepper may be the loyal companion you have been waiting for. Give her the chance to feel safe and loved, and she will return that love with her whole heart.

Pepper is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate core vaccines. She is currently being fostered in Seattle, WA. Her adoption fee is $450.

If you're interested in adopting Pepper, please fill out an adoption application at pnwcdr.org/adopt.

Please note: We do not DNA test all of our foster dogs.
