Pepe, introverted but happy sweetheart's Story

Hi! I’m Pépé! Yes, I know... I look a little bit like a tiny skunk. But I promise, the only thing I’m going to stink up is your plan to NOT fall in love with me!

I’m about 12 months old and a petite 10 pounds of sweetness. I’m a gentle, mellow little guy with an introverted side. I’m not the pup who immediately runs into a room demanding everyone’s attention. I like to watch for a little while, figure things out, and make sure everything feels safe. Once I know you’re my person, though, my sweet and loving side starts to come out.

One of my favorite things is simply being close to my human. If you’re working at your desk, you might find me curled up underneath your chair, quietly keeping you company. I don’t need to be in your face or the center of attention—I’m perfectly happy just knowing you’re there.

I came from a home where there were many little dogs, so I’m very comfortable with canine friends. I’m good with other dogs and I’ve also done well with a cat. I even previously lived in a home with a toddler.

I could be very happy with a friendly, playful, confident dog who can show me that life is fun and help me come out of my shell. But here’s something interesting about me: sometimes I use other dogs as my security blanket and spend more time following them than bonding with my human. When I’m on my own, I tend to seek out my person more. So I could potentially do beautifully as an only dog, too—especially with someone experienced with introverted or cautious dogs who understands how to build trust without rushing me.

I’m not much of a barker on my own, although if all my doggie friends start barking, I may decide I should contribute to the neighborhood announcement.

I’m crate trained, but going into my crate by myself still makes me nervous, so right now my human needs to gently help me inside. With patience, positive reinforcement, and some yummy treats (hint, hint!), I can keep building confidence. And speaking of treats... I am VERY food motivated, which is wonderful for training!

I don’t have any food aggression, territorial behavior, or aggressive tendencies. I’m simply a sweet little guy who needs time and kindness while I learn that people can be just as comforting as my canine friends.

I’m also currently recovering from flea dermatitis and very dry skin. My rescue is already working on getting my skin healthy and comfortable again, and I’m looking better one day at a time. My future family should be prepared to continue giving my skin the care it needs while I finish healing.

What I’m really looking for is someone who understands dogs like me—the quiet ones. Someone patient enough to let our friendship unfold instead of expecting me to be their best friend five minutes after we meet.

Give me a little time, a safe place to land, some delicious treats, and a spot underneath your chair...

...and one day you may look down and realize your tiny little “skunk” has quietly become your very best friend.

I was rescued in Texas and Im looking for a foster-to-adopt family in the northern states. That means you get 2 to 3 weeks to try real life together the home routine, the walks, the treats, the bones, and all the everyday things that help you know if we are truly a fit.

Theres no pressure in the process. If for some reason Im not the right match, my rescue will quickly find me another home so everyone stays supported and safe. Its a thoughtful way to make sure my forever family is truly the right one.

Transport runs every other weekend, and Ill be making my trip north soon. Pickup locations are Winchester, VA, East Hartford, Connecticut and Brattleboro, Vermont.

The best way to apply for me is through the website: www.rociosrescues.org

You can also email rociosrescues@yahoo.comwith questions. Petfinder inquiries sometimes go to spam, so applying through the website is the best way to make sure your application is seen.

I have a feeling my person is out there... and if youve made it this far, I think we might need to meet.
