Penny's Story

Say hello to Penny, a beautiful 5 year old sweetheart who is a Hound mix and fully grown at 48 pounds. She has a lovely personality and she’s one of those rare, truly easy dogs: sweet, steady, and wonderfully adaptable. She lived with a family who had children and another dog but they were no longer able to take care of her so Long Road Home is in the process of finding her the forever home she so deserves. She's living with a wonderful Foster family on Long Island who have 2 great children and another dog, Mollie who is Penny's new BFF! You can see happiness & joy on her face in her pics :)
✨Here's some info her Foster Mom shares about Penny:
*Such a sweet, loving & affectionate girl
*She's a great companion and loves being with our family
*Great with kids and dogs (male & female)
*Loves playing in the backyard and watching TV
*Absolutely loves car rides and taking trips to Petco where she can pick out new squeaky plush toys.
*Fun mellow energy; even chills in the house during snowstorms
*Excellent in the car
*Well-adjusted and familiar with home life; loves to be near her people
*Happy to curl up with you or tag along for daily adventures

Penny is the kind of dog who fits in just about anywhere — house or apartment, busy family or quieter home. Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes. What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
