Meet Penny
Penny is a fearful, skittish dog, but has made great strides since we took her in early in 2023! She lives in her own house at the shelter, but gets out for her daily walks, which are the highlight of her day!
She has been a great mama to at least one litter of puppies, all of whom we were able to adopt out. She plays well with other dogs in the shelter, and we often bring her puppies (as you can see in the photos) to keep her entertained while we work on introducing the leash to her. When you see her let loose and wag her little tail, it's like a weight is lifted!
Penny needs a home that will be so patient in helping her learn that she is safe. She has so much desire to trust and still needs a lot of reinforcement. Penny may do best in a home with another mellow dog, or where she has a caretaker that can give her lots of intentional, structured time to get used to the new routines around her. She needs to have access to inside and outside spaces.
Penny is very food motivated, which has been extremely useful in her progress so far. She is so sweet, and has shown that when people are consistent in her life, she can make leaps toward being a happy, safe, affectionate companion dog.
