Penny's Story

Meet Penny

This 4-year-old, 51 lb mixed breed sweetheart is truly a ball of sugar in the form of a dog. Penny is sweet, gentle, and affectionate, and absolutely adores human attention. She is social, friendly, and loves to interact with everyone she meets, offering the best cuddles and companionship. She prefers to be where her people are and is happiest relaxing nearby or snoozing on the couch.

Penny lost her family due to a housing crisis, and it's clear she was deeply loved. Now she's ready to bring that same love into her next forever home. She's smart, eager to please.

She is currently recovering from hip surgery (previously had an issue with her left hip) and is doing wonderfully. While she's taking things a little slower right now, she remains playful, curious, and full of heart.

Penny hasn't been in our care long, but what we do know about her, we love and so will you.

• COMMANDS KNOWN: Penny knows sit, stay, paw, go lay down, “lap,” “inside crate,” “let's go,” “down,” and even understands some commands in Spanish.

• LEASH MANNERS: Penny walks on leash and is working on pulling. She does well overall and continues to improve with practice and consistency.

• KIDS/DOG MANNERS: Penny is curious about other dogs, likely wanting to play but we have not introduced her to dogs on the street yet. Her behavior with kids is currently unknown.

• SOMETHING OUR FOSTER LOVES: Penny loves eating (especially chicken and treats), being petted, snuggling, sleeping on the couch, and squeaky toys.

• THINGS OUR FOSTER IS WORKING ON: Penny is recovering from hip surgery and taking things slow with gentle activity and rest. She is also working on leash pulling and continuing to build calm, polite walking habits.

• POTTY DETAILS: Penny is housetrained and only goes potty outside.

Penny is crate trained and does well in her crate, even for extended periods. She is affectionate, social, and happiest when she's close to her people.

If you're looking for a loving, cuddly companion who will happily share your couch, your snacks (appropriately!), and your heart, Penny is your girl.
