Penelope's Story

Meet Penelope – A Gentle Golden Girl 🤍

Penelope is a soft-hearted senior who’s entered her slow mornings, warm beds, and peaceful companionship era. She enjoys affection and gentle attention, but she’s not demanding—if you’re busy she’ll find herself a bed to nap in.

Penelope is mostly deaf, and her eyesight may not be perfect, but she can be surprisingly spry at times.. and then other times she faceplants. When asked if she wanted to go for a walk she said, no thanks, maybe in the spring. So she will keep us posted on that.

Since her recent grooming she’s been noticeably more comfortable and content—like a lady who’s just come home from a spa day. Thank you again Elisabeth for donating a groom to her!

Penelope came into care with another small older dog, but they aren’t bonded and can be adopted either together or separately. Penelope could also live happily alongside another gentle dog or cat, she is living with 2 cats in foster care and also stayed with 2 large dogs and didn’t seem to care about their existence one way or the other. She would probably do best with older, smaller or respectful dogs for her own safety, as she could be easily trampled by a young rowdy dog and likely wouldn’t say a word in her own defence.

Penelope is housetrained, though a brief adjustment period in a new home may come with an occasional accident as she settles in.

If you’re looking for a dog who brings peace instead of chaos, Penelope just might be your perfect match!

Born: January 11th, 2012
Breed: Shih Tzu
Gender: Female
Size: Small
Activity Level: Low
Cats: Yes
Dogs: Yes
Kids: Older kids for her own safety
Adoption Fee: $345

If you are interested in meeting Penelope, applications can be found here:

http://mgpr.weebly.com/dog-adoption-application.html

Manitoba Great Pyrenees Rescue's Adoption Policy
The adoption process starts with an application form to find out more information about your family to ensure the best fit for the dog. Applications can be found at http://mgpr.weebly.com/ Second step is to have reference checks and vet checks. We want to ensure all dogs go to responsible loving homes. Thirdly, is the meet and greet with the dog you are interested in adopting. We encourage all members of your family to be in attendance at this visit as the dog will be an integral part of all of their lives. The final step of the adoption process is a home visit from one of our team members. The home visit allows us to see the environment in which the dog will be living as well as to offer any tips and advice to making your home dog friendly. Then your new family member will come home to shower your family with unconditional love.
