Penelope's Story

This sweet girl is Penelope and she’s a lovable 6 years old Hound mix. Believe it or not, her owners brought her into the local Vet for boarding and never came to pick her up. She is such a good girl and we’re looking for a wonderful family who will open up their home & heart her. She’s so well behaved, walks well on a leash & rides well in the car. She weighs 70 pounds now so she could lose a few pounds to get her girlish figure back. She’s gets along great with other dogs & is a very easy girl to live with. She’s fully vetted and ready to find her forever home. Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com).

Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes.   What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
