Peighton's Story

Peighton came from a puppymill in NY State a few months ago. She was found huddled in the corner while recent puppies were being sold, covered in fleas. A kind woman who answered an ad for Scottie puppies saw her and bought her instead, to get her out of there, then asked us to take her. As a result of her past, she’s quite shy at first but warms up as soon as she trusts you and feels safe and then is a snuggly, smart and curious girl. She’s a black Scottish Terrier who our vet guesstimate at 5-7 years old. She gets along well with other dogs, as you can see in the video, more gentle ones. She loves all the comforts she’s become accustomed to in her foster home, especially her couch with puffy blankets. Loves her foster mom and follows her everywhere. She’s slowly learned to accept her foster dad, but she’ll probably always be better with women and wary of men until she knows them. She was probably frightened by men at the mill. She’s curious about her environment and loves exploring her foster home and fenced yard. She’s never known space or freedom before she left there. We’ve recently had her spayed, vaccinated, blood tested, negative for heartworm and Lyme, intestinal parasite negative, microchipped. Any medical issues caused by her prior neglect we have fixed, and she will continue to improve over time with good care and love. Her hair was shaved during her first grooming due to mats, her legs shaved further for anesthesia for her spay, but it’s slowly growing back. She’s been taught housetraining skills and she’s doing really well. She’ll make a great girl for a safely fenced, quiet, understanding, terrier experienced home. Her foster mom just adores her but is at her town’s limit on pets already.
Peighton is currently ready to be adopted once we find the right person. We’re looking for someone in the northeast or middle Atlantic only, no water unless separately fenced, adult only, securely fenced for flight risk, another gentle dog would be nice and might help her transition more easily, but not absolutely necessary. Not for the city, needs a more quiet home. Person MUST be around, not just temporarily. No cages. We strive to make a successful permanent match so we have a detailed application form available to complete at https://stcgny.com/rescue
If you’re interested or have further questions, please contact Erica Cerny at 973-361-6790 or ecerny@optonline.net
