Pearl's Story
Pearl • 10YearOld Newfoundland near Cleveland OH • Gentle, Sweet, Learning the World

Like the gem she's named for, Pearl has spent most of her life hidden away - formed quietly, shaped slowly, and only now being brought into the light. For her first ten years, she never left the property she was born on. When she came into rescue, the world opened all at once: new people, new sounds, new routines. She has met every change with the soft resilience of something precious finally being discovered.

Personality & Home Life

Pearl is wonderfully friendly with every person she's met. She loves curling up on the couch beside an 11yearold friend, soaking up gentle affection. She enjoys the company of other dogs and often looks to them for reassurance and guidance. A calm, confident canine companion would help her continue to blossom.

She's a gentle presence in the home - never destructive, never demanding. She'll bark at things she sees outside (deer are especially fascinating), but she quickly settles.

Training & Skills

Because Pearl lived such a sheltered life, she's starting from the beginning with training. She doesn't know any commands yet.

On leash, she's friendly and polite with people and dogs, though she does pull and isn't quite sure how to explore her environment. Loud household noises can startle her, but she recovers with reassurance. She's cratetolerant, foodmotivated (always hungry!), and has shown no separation anxiety so far.

Health & Mobility

Pearl weighs about 100 pounds and is on the smaller side for a Newfoundland. She moves comfortably, handles stairs without issue, and loves a good nap on the couch. She is scheduled for her spay on February 26 and is being treated for a UTI. Otherwise, she's doing well and settling into routine care.

The Ideal Home for Pearl

Pearl would thrive with:

A confident dog buddy to help show her the ropes
A calm, patient family who understands she's discovering life for the first time
Continued support with training

Pearl is endlessly sweet, always gentle, and trying so hard to understand this new chapter. Like a true pearl, she's emerging from a quiet, hidden life into something brighter - ready for a family who will celebrate her small victories, offer steady reassurance, and show her what it means to be truly home.
