Peanut's Story
Approximate Age: 1 year
Approximate Weight: 38 lbs

Meet Peanut: Sweet, Playful, Friendly!
Friendly Personality: Dog and kid friendly pup who wags her tail whenever you talk to her.
Great stamina for hiking; loves exploring the woods and getting her feet wet.
Working on overcoming nervousness in the car- usually has to be picked up to get loaded in.
Polite Leash Skills: Great on a leash...unless she happens to spot a squirrel.
Great House Manners: Keeps her crate clean and is quiet during her downtime.
Active And Playful: Loves to run after her toys and play with sticks.
Confidence Building: A little shy at first; continued training will help her to become more confident.
Requires a home with no chickens due to a high prey drive.

Hi I'm Peanut, a good girl who just hasn't had the easiest start. I came to ODHS as a single puppy from a high-euthanasia shelter - one of the places where dogs like me don't always get a second chance.

I'm actually a pretty easy girl. I'm gentle, friendly, and kind. I love kids and I'm great with other dogs but also not scared to tell them to have manners. I'm crate-trained meaning I will happily go into a crate but give me a bone and not blankets because I will destroy them the moment you walk away. I sleep through the night in my crate and always keep it clean. Sometimes I whine a little when left alone, but I settle quickly with a firm no once I know I'm okay.

At first, I can be protective of my crate with other dogs present because it feels like the only place that's ever been just mine. But once I'm given a few days to decompress and feel safe, my real personality comes out. I'm playful, loving, and so eager to please. I respond well to training, love to run and play, and I don't need much - just consistency, kindness, and reassurance.

Schedule a meet-and-greet with Peanut by completing our Adoption Survey on the Adopt page of our website at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey.

Join our Foster program and become a hero for dog's like Peanut!
