Peaches's Story

Peaches is a gorgeous (those eyes, that smile, her markings - GORGEOUS), small but mighty girl who takes charge and loves to have fun. She's a bit nervous, so she takes time to warm up, but once she does - she's such a loving and sweet girl that just wants to please you and spend time with you. This sweet peach is looking for her forever home.

- 1 year old snuggle bug
- Petite 45lb pit bull terrier
- Would love a brother or sister to play with (loves dogs)
- Nervous and needs patience but once she knows you’re a safe place, she’ll love you unconditionally
- Ok around kids
- Not great with cats
- Protective, loving and cuddly
- Prettiest and sweetest peach

We don’t know exactly what happened to her, she lived as a stray on the streets and at only around 6 months old, this little girl was put in a shelter. The lovely people at Waggy Butts & Happy Mutts rescue saw this baby and how terrified of the world she was, and pulled her out into a foster home. Since then, she’s been making strides at overcoming her fears.

We guess she’s around a year old as of Jan 1, 2026 (we estimated 12/24/2024 as her birthday), maxing out at around 50lbs. Her foster family has been working with her on socialization, taking her to puppy training classes, and working with her to be confident. At first, she’s a very nervous girl and takes a bit of time to open up and trust you, but once she does, oh man — she is just a little bundle of love and joy. She’ll open up to women, but men will take time to get comfy.

Peaches LOVES to cuddle. She's a big cuddle bug, she'll curl up between your legs, in your lap, or in bed right near your head or feet. She can entertain herself for hours with toys - throwing them around for herself to chase, loves bones and rings the bells to tell you she has to go outside. Shes being fostered with another dog and loves to play rough with her foster brother. Having an older pup sibling will be ideal for her, as her older brother has been a huge help in her gaining confidence, having a friend to play with, and someone to look to when she’s feeling nervous (and to cuddle, of course).

She has gorgeous Merle coloring, with light eyes and the biggest smile. She had her DNA & Health testing done (foster mom was too curious given her petite size and coloring), and she’s 100% American Pit Bull Terrier. All of the information can be provided.

In her classes, she curls up on her place and observes the class. She is super nervous, so she wears a thunder vest and takes a while to get comfortable. But when she does she’s such a great little student and wants to please.

She’s great with dogs, has been good around kids, but questionable around cats (not entirely sure if aggressive towards or just scared and defensive when they’ve hissed at her). She is small but mighty, and will stand up for you and herself. She has a strong independent attitude.

Peaches is a truly loving, protective and observant companion. If her foster brother steals a toy from her, she respects his space but will throw a little fit, adorably tossing herself on the floor next to him, bark an whine, eventually picking up a different toy or finding a coy way to take it from him once he’s done. She’ll sploot out with her toys, loves to chew so bones and toys for aggressive chewers are her favorite (or a simple stuffed animal so long as you’re okay with picking up the fluff as she tares them apart). She hasn’t shown any signs of aggression with food or toys.

She will need time to decompress and get acquainted with your routine. At first, she was terrified of her foster dad, and generally seems uneasy around men (she would bark at any movement or sounds at first, truly just absolutely terrified of the world and men). She’s made huge strides since — she’ll bring him toys to play with her, toss the ball in the air at him to get him to play, cuddle up on the couch next to him. She’ll give a little gruff or growl when she’s uneasy, but with patience and love, she’ll learn she’s safe and loved.

The foster neighbor saw how terrified Peaches was and slowly won her over with treats and pets, and now Peaches greets her with a waggy butt, little excited whines and a smile. She takes time, but this little peach is truly one of the sweetest.

She’s working on her leash etiquette, as she does tend to pull because she’s so nervous and wants to hide somewhere safe. But after exercise, patience, and lots of treats, she walks nicely on the leash. Shes a quirky little girl, but one that just wants a lap to curl up in, a friend to play with, and someone to love and be loved by.

If you’d like to adopt peaches, we can set up a few different meetings for her to get comfortable with you and any pup siblings, and you can see how special she is.

Location: Ocean View, NJ
Apply Online: waggybuttshappymutts.org

Waggy Butts & Happy Mutts's Adoption Policy
Adoption Process: How It Works Submit an Application Start by filling out our adoption application, providing information about your household, lifestyle, and what you’re looking for in a dog. This helps us make the best match possible for both you and the dog. Application Review Once we receive your application, we’ll review it and may contact you for more details. We will ask for photos of your home (or video chat if that makes you more comfortable). Meet the Dog If your application is approved, we’ll arrange a meet-and-greet with the dog you’re interested in. This gives you the chance to spend time with the dog and see if they are the right fit for your family. Adoption Approval After the meet-and-greet, if both you and the rescue feel it’s a good match, we’ll move forward with finalizing the adoption. You’ll complete an adoption agreement outlining your responsibilities as the new pet parent. Adoption Fee We’ll collect the adoption fee, which helps cover the cost of the dog’s care while in the rescue, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, deworming, and preventatives. Take Your Dog Home You can take your new dog home once the paperwork and fee are completed! We’re always here to support you during the transition and beyond if you have any questions or concerns. -------------------- Fostering to Adopt: How It Works Our Fostering to Adopt program allows potential adopters to foster a dog before committing to adoption. This is a great way for both the dog and the potential adopter to ensure a perfect match. Here’s how the process works: Application and Approval Start by filling out an adoption application and indicating your interest in fostering to adopt. We’ll review your application, and once approved, we’ll match you with a dog that fits your household and lifestyle. Fostering Period Once matched, the dog will live with you as a foster. During this period, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the dog’s personality, needs, and behavior in your home environment. We provide all necessary supplies and support during this time. Decide if it’s a Match At the end of the fostering period (typically around 2-4 weeks), you’ll decide if you want to move forward with adoption. If you feel the dog is the right fit, the adoption process will be completed. If it’s Not a Match If you decide the dog isn’t the perfect fit, there’s no pressure. You can continue fostering until we find the right home for the dog, or the dog can be placed with another foster family. Finalizing the Adoption If you choose to adopt, we’ll finalize the process, and you’ll officially welcome the dog into your family. All adoption fees and the dog’s medical care (spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, preventatives) will have been taken care of during the fostering period.
