Peaches's Story

Peaches is a sweet little peach looking for her forever home.

She's a gorgeous (those eyes, that smile, her markings - GORGEOUS), small but mighty girl who takes charge and loves to have fun. She's a bit nervous, so she takes time to warm up, but once she does - she's such a loving and sweet girl that just wants to please you and spend time with you.

We think shes around 9 months old (birthday is a general guess) and as of Oct 1 weighs 36lbs. We don't think she'll grow much bigger, maybe max out around 50lbs (total guestimation but vets agree as well).

Peaches is currently being fostered in a home with another dog and loves to play and wrestle with him, often making gremlin noises and acting tough despite her small size (she stands underneath her 80lb mutt mix foster brother and fits - tiny girl). She's a big cuddle bug, she'll curl up between your legs or when in bed, right near your head. She can entertain herself for hours with toys - throwing them around for herself to chase, loves bones and rings the bells to tell you she has to go outside (as of Oct 10, '25 she's housebroken, using a string of bells hanging from the door seems to be her preferred method of "ringing the bells" to let you know she has to go out)

She isn't a fan of cats so a home without cats is ideal.

She takes treat ever so gently, will greet you with a smile and a toy, and will be a lovely companion for life.

She's in training classes & working on socialization. She'll need time to warm up to any male in the house (she'll bark at men in the home at first, but after a few days/weeks warms up to them) though neutral areas she's good, and is cautious and timid out in public. With time and training, she'll be the perfect companion. After a month with her foster, she’s only a little cautious and barks rarely around the male in the home. She’s getting better everyday. Now she’ll jump up on the couch with him and snuggle up to him, and bring her toys to him to play. She'll drop her ball and roll it closer to him for him to throw, and she LOVES to snuggle in at night in bed.

In the morning, she'll get the zoomies and want to play, then snuggle in after her energy is expelled. When you first wake her up, she has this adorable sleepy clumsy walk and way about her. Just an adorable little girl.

A home with another dog to help her with confidence, any males in the home to be super gentle and patient with any barking, and a family with patience for her to get comfortable & willing to socialize and train her will be preferred. She will need a lot of socialization, as she's very nervous in public spaces but loves a good walk. She's working on her pulling when on a leash and will need patience when it comes to men. She's shown small bits of resource guarding the woman in the home, but is learning to share "her human”. With food she’s totally fine! She loves to have company and a playmate to wrestle with.

She’s a strong little girl. An absolute gem and super snuggle bug when she’s not playing. She’s observant and smart too!

She acts tough, but she's a total peach. Just waiting for the perfect forever home to snuggle in with.

Location: Ocean View, NJ
Apply Online: waggybuttshappymutts.org

Waggy Butts & Happy Mutts's Adoption Policy
Adoption Process: How It Works Submit an Application Start by filling out our adoption application, providing information about your household, lifestyle, and what you’re looking for in a dog. This helps us make the best match possible for both you and the dog. Application Review Once we receive your application, we’ll review it and may contact you for more details. We will ask for photos of your home (or video chat if that makes you more comfortable). Meet the Dog If your application is approved, we’ll arrange a meet-and-greet with the dog you’re interested in. This gives you the chance to spend time with the dog and see if they are the right fit for your family. Adoption Approval After the meet-and-greet, if both you and the rescue feel it’s a good match, we’ll move forward with finalizing the adoption. You’ll complete an adoption agreement outlining your responsibilities as the new pet parent. Adoption Fee We’ll collect the adoption fee, which helps cover the cost of the dog’s care while in the rescue, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip, deworming, and preventatives. Take Your Dog Home You can take your new dog home once the paperwork and fee are completed! We’re always here to support you during the transition and beyond if you have any questions or concerns. -------------------- Fostering to Adopt: How It Works Our Fostering to Adopt program allows potential adopters to foster a dog before committing to adoption. This is a great way for both the dog and the potential adopter to ensure a perfect match. Here’s how the process works: Application and Approval Start by filling out an adoption application and indicating your interest in fostering to adopt. We’ll review your application, and once approved, we’ll match you with a dog that fits your household and lifestyle. Fostering Period Once matched, the dog will live with you as a foster. During this period, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the dog’s personality, needs, and behavior in your home environment. We provide all necessary supplies and support during this time. Decide if it’s a Match At the end of the fostering period (typically around 2-4 weeks), you’ll decide if you want to move forward with adoption. If you feel the dog is the right fit, the adoption process will be completed. If it’s Not a Match If you decide the dog isn’t the perfect fit, there’s no pressure. You can continue fostering until we find the right home for the dog, or the dog can be placed with another foster family. Finalizing the Adoption If you choose to adopt, we’ll finalize the process, and you’ll officially welcome the dog into your family. All adoption fees and the dog’s medical care (spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, preventatives) will have been taken care of during the fostering period.
