Peaches is a 50 pound, 2-3 year old, hound mix.<br/><br/>She was found as a stray and was really struggling in a shelter setting, so she was transferred to Mattie's Place and joined her amazing foster home.<br/><br/>She is spayed, has received her vaccines, including bordetella. She tested negative for most of the tick borne diseases, but did test positive for lyme disease. She has been appropriately treated and has not been symptomatic and we don't anticipate any future concerns. <br/><br/>Lyme disease exposure vs. Infection: most dogs (about 95%) that test positive for lyme disease never show any symptoms of illness.<br/><br/>Antibodies: A positive screening test (like a SNAP test) detects antibodies. These can stay in the blood for years after a simple exposure.<br/><br/>If dogs are going to show signs of illness, that will typically happen within 5 months of the tick bite.<br/><br/>Peaches has been in care since June (at the shelter) and July with Mattie's Place<br/><br/>Peaches will do great with a dog experienced home. A home that has a really well balanced dog that can serve as her mentor and help her grow her confidence. A home that is committed to professional training to help her get over her fear of the unknown. A home that understands compassion for a dog that has likely been through A LOT until arriving into care.<br/><br/>There is absolutely nothing mean about Peaches. Her defence is flight and never fight. She's been cat tested and is afraid of cats. <br/><br/>She would do best in a home with a secured backyard. She is not a busy city type of downtown condo living kinda gal.<br/><br/>Her foster home explains her best ....<br/><br/>FROM THE FOSTER:<br/><br/>Peaches might seem anxious at first, but once she does warm up, she is an energetic and playful little bundle of joy. She interacts with the world as if everything is new, and like she does not know how to engage with that novelty. If you give Peaches calm, consistent direction; the weight of the world comes off of her shoulders. <br/><br/>Really, it seems like she just doesn’t know what she’s supposed to be doing, and that she’s afraid to make any decision on her own- so she freezes, or runs and hides. Once she starts to trust that the humans around her will make decisions for her, and that they will show her what to do- her personality starts to shine through her fear.<br/><br/>And Peaches does have a big personality. <br/><br/>She has a unique way of turning any pat into a belly rub; especially when she is in her crate. She’s always down for a good nose scratch! She is very friendly, she’s been tested and does well with other dogs, cats and small kids. She trusts dogs a little more than she does humans at first.<br/><br/>Peaches does very well with consistent structure and routine. She LOVES mornings. She sleeps well in her crate at night, and she’s learned that the sound of an alarm clock means that people will be waking up soon. She gets SO excited to come out of her crate and greet you with lots of tail wags, wiggles, and running down the hall and back. Occasionally when she’s really excited she does jump up, but she listens very well when you tell her “no”.<br/><br/>If she was allowed to - Peaches would spend the rest of her day, after her morning hello, in her safe place (her crate). She does need some encouragement to get out and face the world. Once her leash is on, she will walk out on her own with the prompt “Ok, come on”.<br/><br/>The more positive her interactions are outside of her crate; the easier it becomes for her to leave it. She LOVES to run around in the backyard and will follow behind you if you run with her. She also likes to play with our other resident dogs- She is very fast and has a lot of energy.<br/><br/>Speaking of her being fast- She will try to run out of any door as soon as it is opened, so she needs to be secured before doors are opened. She is an agile escape artist. She will try to jump over, or dig under fences to escape and so she needs to be monitored closely when she is outside. She can jump an extra tall baby gate inside no problem, but has learned that she shouldn't, so she doesn't any longer, but on her arrival, she was a major flight risk. <br/><br/>She is eager to please, and she is very smart and easily trainable. She catches onto direction quite quickly.<br/><br/>She has a hard time eating or taking treats when she is scared but once she warms up she is quite treat motivated. She eats 2 cups of her kibble per day, divided into two servings. She’s fully house-trained and has never had any accidents with us.<br/><br/>All in all, Peaches is a really great, friendly, and cuddly dog who just needs someone who will help her to navigate the world and learn that it is not scary.<br/><br/>---------------------------------------<br/><br/>$99 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leashcollar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.<br/><br/>----------------------------------------<br/><br/>To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting.
