Peaches's Story

Meet Peaches! This 2 year old beautiful brindle girl came to ACCT through no fault of own. She started off initially shy, but quickly showed us her loving personality. Peaches recently had surgery to correct her cherry eye. Some photos are from before her surgery. We started fostering Peaches on 9/28. Here are some things we have learned about her:

House training: Peaches is working on her potty training and is making progress everyday. We'd say she's about 80% house trained. We keep her on a schedule and reward her with treats and praise whenever she goes to the bathroom outside.

Exercise: Peaches loves walks! She goes on 4-5 walks a day ranging from 15-60 minutes. She enjoys play time too! She will gladly chase her stuffies if you toss them around. This girl could entertain herself for hours throwing her toys around and doing zoomies around the living room. After she has tired herself out she'll usually settle into her crate or on the couch for a much needed nap.

Crate training: Peaches is crate trained! We crate her at night and she goes in without a problem if we toss in a licky mat or other enrichment item. We also crate her when we leave her unsupervised. She is so acclimated to her crate that she will even go in voluntarily for an afternoon nap.

Personality: Peaches is a mutt with the happy go lucky disposition of a Golden Retriever. She loves being loved. On walks she will look up at her handler and smile. Whenever someone comes home, her whole body wiggles and she can't wait to receive pets. She loves to cuddle. She insists one body part must be touching her person at all times when we're on the couch together. When Peaches has downtime she loves to cuddle with her people, nap peacefully on her bed, and enjoy enrichment treats. She particularly loves chewy bones with peanut butter.

Leash skills: Peaches overall walks well on a leash. She will do a mix of pulling and loose leash walking, but she is overall easy to handle on walks. She does have a high prey drive towards birds and squirrels. If she sees another dog on a walk, we usually try to keep our distance, she may pull a little, but it gets easier everyday redirecting her.

Peaches is extremely food motivated and is not picky with her treats, so training her has been a breeze. She has mastered sit and paw, and is practicing touch and focus. She even seems to know her name. She loves any kind of enrichment, whether it's a kong toy filled with peanut butter and kibble, a licky mat, chewing on one of her Nyla bones, or playing with her treat puzzle.

Peaches can be a little shy when meeting new people. A cute quirk about Peaches is that she loves doing dog yoga poses! She loves a downward dog, seal pose, and cat pose. She also loves chin scratches, if you scratch her chin she will almost always drift to sleep. She also loves to sunbathe in the early afternoon.

Peaches does well in the car, in fact, she seems to love car rides! She jumps right in and spends the first few minutes checking out her surroundings and looking out the window, but after a few minutes she'll settle down for a nap. She would make a great road trip buddy!

Peaches is active on Instagram for those who would like to follow her foster journey @acct_peaches

Videos:
Peaches knows sit: https://youtube.com/shorts/gGA3DkuKMh0?feature=share
Peaches playing with her stuffed animal: https://youtube.com/shorts/KZb_OlxqrvQ?feature=share
Peaches on a walk: https://youtube.com/shorts/LkNfZAmKTqY?feature=share
Doggie Playgroup at the shelter: https://youtu.be/NeDBMJ5CdSk
More Doggie Playgroup: https://youtu.be/NeDBMJ5CdSk

Peaches is currently in foster care!
