Payson's Story

Please fill out an adoption application at our website: www.iowaweimrescue.org. We are not a shelter, but a rescue that operates out of foster homes and with volunteers only. Once your application is received, a volunteer will make contact with you to start our adoption approval process.

Foster Payson is looking for his forever home. The name Payson means “Son of Peace”, which is certainly a stretch for this 19-month-old boy. Payson will require a home that is committed to his high activity needs – a daily visit to a dog park, or a puppy playdate or long walks are needed to help manage this boy’s activity requirements. He loves to play ball but doesn’t like to drop the ball. He is an active chewer and needs high quality bones to keep him chewing. He will destroy toys and tennis balls, that’s a lot of fun for him.
Payson is a typical Velcro weim, where you go, he wants to go (you will never be alone). He does need to be reminded of “personal space” boundaries, and wants to be a lap dog. If Payson wants attention, he will gently bite you to try to get your attention. Payson is young and is essentially a toddler. He will need a home that is committed to structure and strong leadership to keep him in line.
He has been around kids (7-year-old and 18 month old) at his foster home and does well around them. He can be kenneled for up to 8 hours, but at that length of time, he will be bouncing off the walls with the wiggles and needs exercise. He is currently living with another dog and does great with him, although he must be reminded of personal space and his foster brother does remind him. Recently, he has been left at large in the home for a few hours at a time and has done well.
Payson has a very high prey drive and can’t be trusted in a house with cats. He also loses his manners when he sees squirrels, rabbits, or birds on his walks. If you are walking him and he sees something, he will lunge for it to chase. Payson is sweet and loveable. He settles down nicely once he gets his exercise.

Payson is fostered in the Twin Cities. His adoption fee is $250.

If you think you may be a good fit for Payson, please fill out an application on our website.

http://www.iowaweimrescue.org
