PAWLA's Story

Pawla is a sensitive, sweet girl who thrives in calm, low-stress environments where she can feel safe and build trust at her own pace. The busy shelter can be overwhelming for her, and she may feel unsure with unfamiliar people at first, but with slow introductions (and a few tasty treats), she warms up quickly and shows her affectionate, loving personality.

Outside of the kennel, Pawla truly blossoms. On a recent outing, she enjoyed a long neighborhood walk, carefully sniffing every leaf and pinecone along the way. Her biggest challenge? A very determined squirrel that earned her best “Clint Eastwood stare.” After her adventure, Pawla relaxed in a quiet, fenced dog park where she had the whole space to herself. She practiced her “sit” and “stay,” bravely explored new obstacles (even if the tunnel wasn’t her favorite), and happily worked for treats.

Once Pawla feels comfortable, she becomes the cuddliest girl ever. She seeks out her trusted people when she’s unsure and finds comfort in close contact and gentle affection. Her absolute favorite thing in the world is chin scritches — and with her incredibly soft fur, those are hard to resist! She also makes a wonderful car companion, stretching out quietly in the backseat like a perfect little passenger.

Pawla does best with experienced, patient adopters who can provide structured, low-stress handling and help her navigate her fear-based behaviors with kindness and consistency. In the right home, she will be a deeply loyal, affectionate companion who just wants love, cuddles, and a safe place to call her own.

Adoptions are free and include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving with you. To view our current available animals, please visit: https://indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet.
