Palomo's Story

Hoarded, allowed to breed uncontrolled, one in many so no individual attention received by him. Life was just existing, eating, sleeping, playing with siblings/parents/cousins/uncles and of course grandparents who were stuck in the same situation.

HISTORY
Born in Kennewick and likely never left his home or family until the day we picked him up and took him to a foster he had never met before.
Palomo is located in West Richland in southeastern Washington state. We advertise our dogs in a variety of locations in an effort to improve their chances of finding great homes. We can assure you; this pup is well worth a road trip!

SOCIALIZATION
Palomo hid under a Christmas sleigh for several days after arriving at his fosters home. He soon adapted to being outside most of the time and slowly began coming inside the house. He now happily sits below his foster mom's walker waiting for treats to drop, allows her to join him on the sofa for pets and enjoys his housemates with 4 legs very much including his brother who has progressed much faster socially.
Currently Palomo is a fairly happy and content little guy bouncing around his foster home with his gang of chihuahuas. He goes outside and comes back inside freely and is spoiled with home cooked meals, treats and as many pets as he allows.
Prior to being fostered he lived with older humans and multiple dogs all of whom are smaller than 20 pounds. He's not been around children, and it is unlikely he will enjoy them.

Palomo's ideal home would likely be with mature humans in a house with a securely fenced yard and a doggy door to allow free indoor, outdoor access. He will bark when new people come to your home and very likely hide from them for a while. Low traffic, a special person to give him occasional head pats and provide regular quality meals for his pleasure.

GENERAL TEMPERAMENT AND BEHAVIOR
If you're ok being a servant to a tiny tyrant who will only allow special physical touch at his will, providing his highness with specially cooked and painstakingly prepared healthy meals, bribing him with healthy treats, Palomo might be your kind of guy.
He doesn't require much for activity but would prefer to have at least one or two fellow gang members to cavort around the place with but walks around the neighborhood and intense exercise will take time to teach him and maybe he's going to enjoy them with lots of encouragement.
He's not had any leash experience so that's going to be very new for him.
He's going to be your shadow anytime food is involved.

So, if you love an alarm for impending dangerous situations, don't need to take walks or go everywhere with your dog, Palomo could be your guy!

TRAINING
Palomo has had no formal training but is fine around the house. He can learn to go outside of the home with lots of love and patience from you.

HEALTH STATUS
Palomo has not yet been neutered, is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and treated for parasites. He appears to be in good health and weighs around [12 lbs]. Based on available information, we've designated 06/03/2024 as his birthday making him approximately 1 year and 6 months old.

FURTHER INFORMATION
You will find more photographs in Palomo's Facebook album at: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BfofCbg72/

Palomo's adoption fee is $400. To adopt this special dog, please complete an online adoption application at https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HAWA-A-34, or write to HearthfireART@gmail.com and request an adoption application form.

HART's dogs are all in private homes - we do not have a facility. We will be happy to arrange for you to meet Palomo, and any of our other dogs you may be interested in, once we have approved your application to adopt.

Please note, Palomo is located in the Tri-Cities, Eastern Washington. We do not transport our dogs via a third party, but, if necessary, we will arrange transportation to an approved home within the Pacific Northwest, at your expense.

HART (Hearthfire Animal Rescue Team)'s Adoption Policy
All our pets are in private foster homes. HART does not have a facility. For this reason, we introduce pets to potential adopters only after the adoption application has been approved. Our process involves: # A detailed application form, which must be submitted electronically # An online background check # Reference checks (calls to your vet, landlord, and at least two personal references) # Interviews with all the adults in the home (and, if the pet is intended primarily as a child's companion, we talk with the child) # A home visit, conducted at our discretion by a member of HART or a trusted rescue colleague Most of our pets are located in the Tri-Cities (Kennewick/Richland/Pasco) in Eastern Washington, and we place pets only in homes within the Pacific Northwest. As needed we may arrange for a trusted member of our team to transport a pet to an adopter, at the adopter's expense. We do not ever release pets to a third party for transportation; we personally introduce every pet to their adopter. HART is a registered 501(c)3 charity. We depend on adoption fees and donations to continue serving our community. We do not have an office or facility, and our team is made up only of volunteers. Our entire income goes to helping animals.
